Worst Day ever!!!

Had my trio appointments today.  What should have been 1 hour and 20 minute drive took me 2 1/2 hours.  Finally arrived and was covered in my period.  Thank god I had the sense enough to bring extra cloths.  The reception was so understanding and gave me the time to go change.   No issue with RN or Social worker but the Nutritionist.  Like every other one I've meet.  Of no help at all.  Because I ate three bagels in one week she wouldn't approve me.  I've stopped drinking pop, drink over 16oz of water a day, plan my meals out in advance, haven't had a french fries in over a month and half go out of my way to eat protein and vegetables reducing my starch.  Discuss more things I was implementing over the next few weeks.   But that is not enough.  So I am delayed.  Really thanks for the help.  Next number please is all I could hear.   Then I go to leave and some *sshole has parked way over the line and blocked my car, there is no hope in hell of me ever getting into my car even if I weight 50lbs.  All I wanted to do is get out of there.  I hate the city and that neighborhood.  Waited 10 minutes some guy comes out.  I say can you move your car so I can get in. He looks at me and says "No speak English"  I yell back "Have a nice day".  He then moves his car.

What hospital are you out of? That seems rather harsh that because you ate 3 bagels in a week they didn't approve you?  Are you sure that was the only reason why she delayed you?

So the Nutritionist is asking that you see her again prior to approval to demonstrate your willingness to make changes to your eating habits? And she is suggesting that eating bagels isn't a great choice for weight loss?

Hmmm.

No doubt that bagels aren't a great thing to eat for weight loss, but lets be realistic that none of us got to where we are today by eating lettuce and protein every single meal. Isn't the idea to try to help people out and give them tools to make better choices when they have their surgery? I think that is rather off putting to have the surgery delayed because someone ate 3 bagels over the course of the week.

By not pushing her through and having her come back for another appt IS their way of helping and giving better tools. This journey isn't something to just be pushed through....we have to be ready. Obviously the nut doesn't feel she is.

I guess you do not see that the Nutritionist IS helping her. There is obviously more to the story, Mellybelly. 3 bagels does not equal a roadblock. A pattern of lack of changes and choices could equal a roadblock. In either case, no one really knows except Sandra. ;)

Sorry you had such a challenging day, especially the period bit!

Its not uncommon for the NUT to request a 2nd visit, many on the boards have had to do that.

Many also have those appointments spread out over months, so the fact you were able to get them all in one day, I'm assuming because you live a bit away from the centre, will already cut plenty of time off your journey.

Be positive about the experience. Bagels are a terrible choice, one is nearly the equivalent of four slices of bread. There are 100% other options that are better, and equally satisfying. Not trying to be a preacher, I'm sure you heard it enough today, but really, the NUTS are the trickiest appointment for many.

You're right, Jennifer, the NUTS are often the trickiest appointment - because the majority of us have no freakin' clue what it truly means to "eat healthy to lose weight" and the first inkling of how to implement the changes to do so.

Okay, before everyone jumps on me, I understand what the nutritionist is there to do.  My concern is that none of us would need this surgery if we ate healthy, no?  So wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that most of us do not have the best eating habits when we go to the nutritionist appointment?

Is this the group appointment or is there a 1 on 1 with the nutritionist?
