Struggling-? for the vets

I would use the Senokot  first if you are really plugged than go to prunes to keep you regular. For a few months I did 3 prunes everyday because I found that with the iron pills if I did not eat the prunes than i was having problems. Now I do only when I need them. It does not take long for them to work. You can always eat more if needed

Yes, you could eat more if needed, but its a little counterintuitive to weight loss to eat more fruit. I am all for natural remedies but one would have to be very mindful of adding fruit to their daily intake, especially with the OP having just had surgery on the 16th.

I am almost a year out, and I still have to use senokot every 3 days or so...otherwise I don't go. I just used it Tuesday afternoon and went Tuesday night as I didn't want to take it Tuesday night when travelling to Toronto Wednesday morning. Had to use them again lastnight and went this morning..very constipated stool ???

I may give the prunes a go. I think I better wait for a week though, as I am starting my week of work tonight and I'm not sure how quickly this will work for me. Don't need any surprises lol.

Thank you for the info :)

MOM works but sure tastes horrible. I had a lot of issues post op and got in the habit of using an Inulin fibre like 'clearly fibre' in my water every day. We shouldn't use a pysillium fibre as it binds in us RNY folks.

I find it really helps.

If you feel "plugged" MOM will help, but you can also take Ducolax suppositories.  It really worked for me.  Not the funnest experience, but it worked.  Keep drinking lots of water, even with taking this, and try to keep walking.  It helps.

I feel your pain!!!  I got extremely blocked up a few weeks post-surgery.  Milk of Magnesia did nothing.  Suppositories did nothing.  However, a couple of days taking Colace got everything moving quite nicely.  I took them daily for a few weeks, then weaned myself off them.  Seven months out and everything works as it should.  If things do "slow down" I'll take a Colace, but that's usually about once every 5 or 6 weeks.

Good luck and remember - this to shall pass. ;)

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!!!

2 doses of Milkof Magnesia and 4 senokot and something FINALLY moved. Not to the point where it should be. But something is better than nothing!   Have an appointment with my family doctor to get some colace.

I'm drinking lots.  And now even more. I haven't had this issue before but such is life! Small price to pay.   😄

Thank you again for replying-I can't tell you how much I appreciate it!

You can get Senecot with a stool softener! I take them now and again. Drink warm water if you can and I swear by a ho****er bottle or heating pad on my poor tummy

as a 6 yr veteran I can luckily say that I only experience constipation once after surgery..adding a bit of fiber in the form of Metamucil or even small bran, worked for me..you have to find out what works for you.  And yes get that liquid in it's so VERY important.

Watch the sugar content in prunes...not sure what that is.

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
