Proud of myself

I am 9 months post op and while I know they are not awful for you, I had started having one or two sugar free chocolates a day and recently slopped because I do not want to get into the habit of chocolate (good or bad). Anyways back to my story.....while grocery shopping today I had a craving and almost purchased a bag, but said not now let me continue shopping and see how I feel after as this craving will pass. It did pass and I realised this is a milestone for me, as in the past with this type of behaviour I would immediately have to gratify the craving and purchased the chocolate or whatever , then got home and regretted it, but would have eaten it so to not waste.
Anyway, this is a step I feel is awesome and will keep this as it helps me eat healthy and not give in to temptation.

Good for you! I do find, however, that eating "sugar free" chocolates is like playing with fire! My brain does not know the difference between "sugar free" and regular and therefore, when I eat something sweet, my brain shouts for more, therefore setting up the craving even stronger. I now do not "crave" anything sweet (or sugar) because I totally abstain from eating any sugar. No sugar = no cravings. Maybe you should try it. It took me a month to completely get rid of any cravings. I have not had any refined sugar for 18 months now and have lost 110 lbs. Just wanted to share this with you. Hope it helps.

Excellent advice/post! I am a huge advocate for completely giving up refined sugar - gave it up 9 years ago, have lost and maintained a 170 pound weight loss, and don't miss it at all.

I agree, that is what I decided and have been good for two weeks now...then the craving and I was happy I did not give in. I am like you the sugar free chocolate made me crave more and more so I figured it was time to stop it 100%.
Instead I made apple crisp with less sugar and sweet apples...does the trick and I add nuts to make it higher in protein....
Thank you for the advice I hope at 1 month the craving subsides 100%
I love this story and I am sure everyone can relate to being in this situation at one time or another. Just realizing that you can wait and the craving will most likely will pass is a huge step in the right direction. I try to make sure that I am completely full before shopping and bring along a healthy snack and water just in case. I also write out what I am there to buy and focus on finding those items only rather than just browsing the isles. If I can take a moment to understand what is causing the craving, often it is emotional upset. So if that is the case maybe I do some journaling and come up with a plan. Or, I buy myself something small, like a bottle of bubble bath or lip balm instead of junk food. Or sometimes a healthy snack that is a little special so I do not feel deprived.

Good idea to have a list. I should try that and eating first also.
Thank you for the advice.
