Sleep disturbances

I've always been a night owl, but since surgery my sleep schedule is whacked.

My first night home from the hospital, I got to sleep around 11 and woke up at 7. No problem.

The second night I didn't get to sleep until 3, still got up at 7. I was surprisingly awake all day. I was still awake at 4 in the am.

The third night, I didn't sleep at all and finally got up at 5:30. I read the paper and at 7, finally got tired and went back to bed for 4 hours. Things continued like this for a few days.

Last night at 3, I took some melatonin (OK'd by my surgeon) and slept until 3 this afternoon.

Has anyone else had their sleep cycles disrupted and how did you get back on track?

I posted on here a little while back about my sleep problems, they have been so bad.  at least twice a week, My head hits the pillow and my mind won't settle down, I end up getting up and doing wor****il the unholy hours of the morning then finally crashing and messing up my whole schedule for the next day.  I thought it might have been stress, but I have no more stress than I had pre-op and I slept fine.  I have not yet been able to find any answers.

I do work with a naturopath, and on her suggestion I tried some guided meditation (and if you knew me, this is not something I would have taken seriously, but I am so desperate for sleep) and it has seemed to help, I found some good ones on youtube and downloaded the audio, put in some earbuds before bed and I have slept on time and peacefully the last 3 nights.

Thanks for your replies, everyone. It's good to know I'm not alone. Next time I'm awake at 3, I'll just think about all the other RNYers doing the same thing :)

Although it's a bit annoying, I'm enjoying the extra energy I have, even when I haven't slept much.
