Hey Niki ,
I had surgery at TWH on Dec 16th . My surgery was at 8 am . I am from Innisfil , so me and Hubby left home around 4.30 am to get there for 6 . I basically had showered and packed the night before . I literally got up , washed my face again , brushed my teeth and got my clothes on . Kissed my sleeping boy and we were off . I was a little nervous in the car but the closer we got the more calm I became . Once there , we were told to wait in a nice waiting room then I was taken thru and processed . I was put in to a room and given a gown to put on. And bags to put all my stuff in . The nurse came in and took all my vitals . And I was also given a test for something I can't remember what now . It was a swab in all my ' private ' parts . Fast and painless though .Then Hubby was allowed thru with me . Then I walked thru to the bay area and was put in a big chair where they came and put in my IV . The anesthesiologist guy was a total sweetheart . And also very cute . I kind of fancied him a wee bit so he took my mind off of being nervous ! lol ......By that time it was time for me to meet my surgeon . Dr Alan Okrainec. He was really nice , he spoke to myself and hubby for a few mins then I was told to go through to the OR with the cute anesthesiologist guy , we talked while walking down as he was European also , so we discussed our homes and stuff . The OR is a big kind of sterile room , and cold !! TheY put me up on the bed thingy , covered me up with a blanket and then I met amother couple nurses who were all super sweet . Then I got the mask on , they told me it was just oxygen , and within seconds I could feel my eyeballs getting all sparkly and that was it ! Next thing I know Im waking up in recovery . I remember feeling a huge sense of relief , that I woke up !!! Lol I had some discomfort and the nurse there kept telling me I must be in more pain than I was letting on cos my BP was really high . But honestly I was more woozy than anything . She gave me more morphine in my IV and then was all triumphant cos my blood pressure came down . To be honest , she was a wee bit snarky , the only one from my wholé visit who was . Everyone else was super nice . I was taken up to my room where my Hubby was waiting and it was a really positive experience from there. They were on top of my pain at all times . I don't actually remember feeling in pain . My advice is just take the meds at regular intervals . Unless they don't agree with you , I really don't see the need to try and not take anything . Be comfortable . I slept on and off . I sent hubby home and fpr the rest of my time there , I walked ...I read ,I text pix and chatted with my family and friends in Scotland on Whatsapp ! .... I hooked up with My lovely Seyenna , who was in on the same day as me :) and also Sadgirl89 ... we chatted ....I watched the Survivor Finale with another lovely lady Donna whom I met while there . And I overall had a really good 2 days !!
Stay positive , enjoy it . Remember the reason you are doing this , and think positive thoughts about how you are just gonna rock this thing from now on !! Cos this is it , it's what you've waited all this time for ! After this little bump in the road , you're on the other side and the only way is up from there .
All will be totally fine dear , and you'll be home and resting and recovering before you know it .
Keep that chin up ! And keep us posted x
Hugs
Jax x
Best wishes today, Nikki! I hope you made it in through the snow!
