Blood work off

Meet with the RN in Windsor things went great.  She thought I would sail through everything. Not so!!!!

Just got called from my Dr office my blood work is a mess.  B-12 and hemoglobin are critically low again.   I had the merina inserted to fix this problem 6 months ago.  Guess that didn't work.  Also my parathyroid is really high.  Not sure what's gonna happen now.  I have the nutrition class on Tuesday and meet With the doctor in Windsor on Thursday.   I have a feeling that this is going to slow right  down now.    :(

Sorry just needed vent.

How scary and frustrating.  I know that it will not seem at all possible at this moment, but finding a solution for these issues now, will end you in a place where you will not just survive after surgery and in your new life, but you will thrive.  My thoughts are with you, take a deep breath, let them take care of you, and know you are not alone on your journey

Thanks so much for your reply.  It's frustrating.  I had my first orientation in 2012 but I was a smoker so I quit it's been almost 7months now and I'm really proud of myself for quitting.  Except that of course I'm gaining weight!  Go figure but I wasn't worried because I had the surgery coming soon.

I have battled with anemia for years now and the doctors haven't been able to find a cause we thought for sure it was my cycle which has always been heavy.   So we thought we fixed it with the merina no more monthly cycles.   But nope something is still going on.

Now the parathyroid issue.  I know things will get fixed and I will have the surgery.   I'm just frustrated.

Thanks so much for the kind words.  I needed them!

Sometimes it takes a bit of a "crisis" with our health to truly get to the bottom of the issue. I too suffered from extremely low hemoglobin and was even admitted twice for blood transfusions (hemoglobin was at 67, my doc and the ER doc were astounded that I could even walk around let alone function in life). I've also had huge issues with my iron levels (pretty much goes hand in hand with the hemoglobin) and had to have a hysterectomy at the ripe old age of 45. I've also had several rounds of iron infusions and expect to have to continue with those periodically for life - that's just how my body works (doesn't work) apparently. I can't speak to the parathyroid issue as I've not experienced that.

What I will say is that you for sure don't want to be going into a major surgery (WLS) with anemia/hemoglobin issues. Fixing it now will only help make your recovery and post-op life better.

Good luck,

K.

Thanks again everyone for the kind words.

Karen I've had my doctor say the same thing to me many times.  "How are you even sitting here". I think it's just me and we'll you LOL.  I know we have to get this resolved before I can go into any major surgery.   I just really thought this time I had all my ducks in a row.  Quit smoking, merina was going to fix the anemia problem.  Etc etc!

Oh well a few more tests and maybe this time we can find some answers!

thanks again everyone!!!!

My stuff was out of whack too. They ended up having me on 1200 calcium citrate, a b12, 4,000 vitamin d and my thyroid med is the highest dose he has ever given. By surgery time the changes they gave me had me ready to go.  They will get it fixed for you too

My hemoglobin has always been an issue for me even 6 years later....I even had an app't with a Blood Specialist, *****commended I visit my gynecologist..after I did, and they found a bening tumour, that grew to the size of a baseball in just under 4 months I had a hysterectomy  For about 8 months after that with no period I was at a decent level and then again it plunged.  I still visit my bariatric doctor, actually he's my GP, but ectremely knowledgeable...anyway I visit him every 3 months to monitor this.

It will get sorted, but it's amazing what the body does.  You have to get yourself "up to par" before you can take this next step and once we decide this is the route for us..time sees to stand still

I always say we didn't get obese overnight so it takes time to make the necessary changes and eventually see the wanted results

All the best

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
