Worried
Thanks Caroline! I do want to do more than just change my relationship with food, and I've tried many things including doctor supervised weight loss. I'm ready for surgery and ready to change my life in this regard. I am very afraid and aware of the negative effects my weight has on my health and I know my fate if I don't make this change :)
I will check out the news story, thank you so much!!
Nikki :)

Hi, I also had similar concerns before surgery but also realized my life style was not sustainable. I am 56 and new it wasn't going to get any easier so I had to do something. I breezed through surgery and the first few stages of the post op diet. Things have been tougher since trying to eat a regular diet. Apparently I have a very "sensitive pouch" according to the nurse at the clinic, so most meat makes me sick eggs make me sick I don't like yogurt or cottage cheese so it has been a little challenging getting in my protein requirements, and since I get nearly 0 enjoyment from eating it has been hard on me emotionally. What makes me the most upset is that I am also a slow loser only losing 45lbs in the 3 months since surgery. Go figure. But regardless of all that I was and am prepared to make these changes and sacrifices to have a better healthier life. I am sure as time goes on things will change and I will be struggling with eating too much again so I am ok with the few difficulties. As far as my husband of 40 years goes he has been supportive of MY choices for healthier way of eating but continues to drive up to the drive-thru at McDonalds and asks what do you want? When I make a face and say nothing thank you he just laughs at me and gets his usual. So I am prepared to do it on my own it was my choice not his and I except that. As far as tips that made it easier for me, switched to decf coffee, stopped drinking pop, stopped drinking at mealtimes, tried making healthier choices one meal at a time, and tried to be more conscious of my portion sizes. Sorry its so long, I hope it helps. Good luck on your journey to a healthier you.
Thanks for replying Wendy-Louise! I chuckled because my hubby will be the same I think, in reference to your McDonald's comment. He's already started saying "don't get all healthy on me and try to get me to quite smoking"...I eat too much but don't smoke or drink...he smokes and drinks occasionally but doesn't eat too much, lol. We're a good team though in all seriousness. Thanks again for your post!! It really helped :)

Hi Nik,
I to was a healthy fat person, and that seemed to be the way I've been for a long time. At 52 the only issue I had was mild sleep apnea, BP, sugar, cholesterol, etc.. was actually perfect. My reason for having a VSG was I did not want to become unhealthy. I have several little ones that I wanted to make sure I saw graduating or marrying. My husband and I discussed it and the process started. Yes the pre-op process is a challenge but before I knew it surgery was upon me. Prior to surgery I changed my eating habits and lost 60 lbs. I did not have one single issue with the VSG surgery. I didn't even take any pain medicine. If I would have known that I would have done this a long time ago !! I am two weeks post op, and down 75 lbs. I feel so much better, and now at least I think I will see those little ones grow up. Walking is easier, getting out of a chair is easier, I have more energy, and it can only get better. My life other than my relationship with food DID NOT CHANGE AT ALL! My husband, siblings, extended family, and coworkers are so supportive, and my relationship with them has actually become stronger, not weaker.
My motto is I can and I will!!
Good luck
Lisa
