2 years post op, my scare and friendly reminder
First things first! Those of you just starting, congrats on making this amazing life changing decision! What an amazing 2 years it has been for me.. And my family, who enjoys having a much more active wife and Mom!
Not 1 day since surgery have I had an issue with anything.. Normal .. Ohh crap, this hurts and ohh crap, I can't crap after surgery :p lol tmi?.. But all and all fantastic! Till now.
healthy and fit, I still enjoy the extremely occasional treat (usually in liquid form :) but the change in how much food and what food I put in my mouth amazes me. I have however slacked off on my vitamins.
i take them if I remember, if not ohh well. I'm doing fine anyways.
i have been under the weather for the last few weeks, but didn't think to much of it, I am after all a proud mom of 4, and work full time. I decided after a day of being awake for about 4 hours total by 6 pm, I better go get some antibiotics, when I got to emerg. After blood work and an ECG I was shocked at how quickly I was being seen by the Dr. ( I mean I just needed antibiotics, right).
He was kind but stern with me and said, You are being admitted immediately, your heart is in distress and you need a blood transfusion immediately...
I spent 5 days in the hospital, I have had blood and iron transfusions. Endless other test and will be off work now until my heart is stronger again for the "trauma" caused by this.
my hemoglobin was 67 and my iron was 2, normal hemoglobin is about 120 and iron around 50 ( for me anyways). Cause.. Not staying on top of my vitamins.
This is a life long commitment and an amazing one worth every baby step you take along the way!
my post isn't meant to scare anyone, just wanted to share incase someone else was feeling overly confidant and pill lazy like I was. I want all my friends on here to stay healthy and safe :))
good luck on all of your journeys!
Great reminder and post. Thanks for that. I have been struggling with some unrelated wls health issues and find myself missing a few doses a week (feel nauseous). I will try now to make a conscientious effort to take them.
I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for a timely reminder. I have been neglecting my vitamins, mostly because I can never find the right time to take them, I am going to the HRRH clinic next week for my followup appointment & will be sure to get my blood work done. Hopefully I have not done too much harm.

Good post and good reminder. I'm pretty but already take different meds and supplements so I don't think this will be a problem for me, but I hear about it at support group meetings.
My daughter is 2 years post chemo and stopped taking her supplements. She was feeling awful, had blood work done and the results were scary. hemoglobin and iron were very low.
when a doctor tells you to take supplements you need to treat them like a prescription.
Hope you recover completely from this. Thanks for sharing.
