I am four days post op and am wondering what kind of aches, pains, and the like to expect.  Don't want to be creating a catastrophe at each twinge but also don't want to be too cavalier.  I have clean incisions, my water intake is good, got all protein in today, but have aches in back not sharp dull pain intermittent, some nausea, the area below my rib cage is sore and get sharp pings when I breathe in.  I hesitated to post this because I don't want to get those in pre-op concerned for no reason.  I have been really doing well just want to get a handle on what is relatively normal and what should ring bells?  thanks

At around 2 weeks post op , I began experiencing the same pain.  It was in my lower left back / side area . And when I breathed deeply it was very sharp . I actually posted about it too . Most people said it was most likely due to muscles healing and inside incision pains . It went away pretty much fter that ! Don't worry too much ,just keep an eye on it and it won't hurt to put a call in to your Centre to enquire and let them put your mind at rest .

Hope all is else is well . Things will get easier in the next week or so . Keep your chin up :)

there is "no normal"...everyone is different everyone has different thresholds of pain or discomfort...I left the hospital with presecriptions for major pain killers..never used anything.

I made a point to get up and move as much as I could..sitting 20 minutes, then walking back and forth in my house for 10...and repeat.

I believe that some sharp pains when occasional breathing is normal, stuff just needs to move around and remember they have cut through several layers, of fat, muscle and tissue, eventhough it's laproscopic it's still a big ordeal to your organs.

But anytime you truly feel something is "just not right" make sure you contact your clinic or doctor...even if you talk to a bariatric nurse...it's necessary.

Not sure if you have a follow-up scheduled, some clinics/surgeons as to see their patients in a couple of weeks.  I didn't return to my clinic as it was in the USA, but I still visit my GP here that specializes in RNY even at 6 years post-op..I usually check in and have blood work every 3-6 months.

If in doubt and uncomfortable for too long call

and remember not to stretch those muscles by pulling laundry out of a washing machine or sweeping etc..it will hit you like no other pain you have ever felt..believe me...I experienced that, thinking at a month pre-op I was fine to pick clothes out of the washing machine..all it took was a little tug and I was in agony~!

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
