Time off work for Surgery?

Just wondering for those post-op, how long did you take off work after the surgery?

How did you work this out with your employer?  Did you have to use EI? Was it a hard process with EI?

Thanks!

How long you take off depends on your job. I sit all day so I had 3 weeks of. If you have lifting it will be longer. I used our companies disability for my time off. I know there are people on here who have used EI. Hopefully they will chime in.

I have been advised I should take 6 weeks are my job requires heavy lifting. I plan to use some vacation time if they allow it or the companies sick leave if they won't grant me vacation for that long. :-)

I do have an office job with 3 different offices and my hours are flexible, but I have been advised to take the 6 weeks off if you can, to get your strength back, to get all the shakes and vitamins schedule all set and to focus on YOU.  I think I am going to take that advice.  I will be using a week of sick time, and then taking EI.  EI will hold the first 2 weeks and then the following 4 weeks will be paid.

I took eight days, although I work a stressful and demanding job, I do work from home, I thought I could handle this… It wasn't enough. I would say a minimum of three weeks would have been what I ideally should have taken.

My employer just paid it, and did not have to go through any ei / sick pay route.

My surgeon told me he recommends everyone take 6 weeks regardless of your job. He said the adjustment is a lot to take in, and you need to focus on that and learn how to eat properly before you go back to work.
