Has anyone participated in the Ropivacaine Case Study in Ottawa?
I went for my PATTS testing on Thursday and I was approached by a Student doctor who is working on a case Study regarding the use of Ropivacaine for Roux-en-Y bypass surgery. The study is to see if using Ropivicaine reduces pain after Surgery there is a 50/50 percent chance that you will either receive the drug (which is inserted through a tube through one of your existing incisions at the start of surgery) or you will receive a Placebo you or your surgeon will not know which one you received until 6 months to a year after the Surgery has anybody participated in this new study I believe they started testing in February 2014. Dr. Mamazza, Dr. Yelle and Dr. Neville are all participating.
I didn't but I know of 2 people who did participate in August. One of them was asked to walk up and down the hall for 6 minutes without stopping as part of this testing. Sounds interesting but I was never approached to do it so I was not a part of it. I am a part of the research group for statistics though, so they follow you to collect data, sounds good, I like to give back if I can.
I did. You fill out a questionnaire before surgery, then walk a designated path for ? minutes then you're done. Just before surgery, you have to blow in a tube to check how far you can blow ( lol) and then again the day after surgery every couple of hours. Then you walk the same distance to compare with your first try. And you walk again at your 1 week apt. at the WMC. Fill out again the same questionnaire and you're done. The guy was super nice and came to visit a lot just to see how I was doing. Came back to see me again a couple of times when I was re-hospitalised with complications a week later.
