I have heard that some doctors hold spaces for emergency surgery. What constitutes an emergency WLS?

I haven't heard that. Honestly everyone goes through the same process. Dieticians, social worker, clinician, Dr. Glazer (for HRRH), they all need to pass you first.

Referral - Feb 25th, 2014. Info Session - April 7th
Surgeon#1 - May 15th  Dr. Glazer - July 23rd, Dietitian/Social Worker/RN - Aug 1st, Surgeon #2 - Sept 10th, Surgery - Dec 16th, 2014!

I would assume it is for patients that had complications with their weight loss surgery.... There are some people that have had to have an additional surgery to correct a complication.

There is no such thing as emergency WLS. There are situations where people need to go back in due to complications.

A friend of mine had a bowel obstruction and bumped both surgeries that were occurring in Ottawa that day.

I'm assuming bigger hospitals have a little more flexibility and have room for emergencies.

Many bariatric surgeons are also general surgeons - the spaces are held for cancer patients and other surgeries requiring immediate attention.

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't think there were emergency WLS, but it makes sense about the complications and being general surgeons.
