For those who went to Mexico

I am weighing out all my options... Thanks to all *****ad this and those who have some answers!

I am "just" under the 40  BMI ... As I have lost a few pounds so I worry that I will wait almost a year to find out I am denied ... I have no other health issues ... Yet.  I am so ready for this.  Also, there is a chance that we will move out of ON within the next few years so then what!  I would be somewhere where there is a 3, 5 or 10 yr wait!

I keep thinking about Mexico as an option .. From everything I have read it seems like a great experience with positive outcomes!  BUT what happens after .. Say if there are complications?  Does your family doctor do the follow up care ... Blood work etc?  Does OHIP cover say a hernia complication if one come from surgery if you got surgery out of country?

Also, did you take out extra insurance to cover unexpected complications .... say you ended up in hospital for 10 days in hospital in Mexico.

also, are the fees in USD?  How do you pay ... Certified cheque?

How long of a wait was it surgery?

I was leaning towards RNY ..... But it seems that the sleeve is common in Mexico?

I don't want to cause any debates .... What made you choose your type of surgery?

Thanks so much!

Janet

If you are accepted into the program they usually do not decide to not do the surgery because you have lost weigh. Do you have co mobidities?

In Ontario you usually have the RNY. It is considered the gold standard. SO unlesss you have a reason that is what you get.  For other surgeries i would suggest you read up on them and then make a decision.

Good luck with your choice

Once you are "in" the program in Ontario you are in. You don't have any major health issues now but what about family history?

It doesn't take 3 or more years to go through the process in Ontario.

Your family doctor will always be your main health care provider in Ontario. The problem is a lot of family doctors don't know a lot about weight loss surgery and the types of issues you may or may not have.

Medical insurance will not cover you if you go out of country for "elective" surgery. If you have a complication you pay.

RNY is considered to be the GOLD standard for weight loss surgery.

The rest I can't answer because I had my surgery in the US.
