Minimum Weight to Lose
I totally agree. And I was shocked. And not that age matters but it's not like she is really young and hasn't been around the block, so to speak with the yo yo dieting. She is 48 years old
She said when they called her about the program the conversation went something like this. Well you have about XXX pounds to lose, so if you go on the program and lose XX pounds that will only leave you with 40 to 50 to lose on your own......seriously??? And she had 6 weeks to decide. Oh yes and all this was to the tune of $1500. She didn't call them back, she was devastated.
My cousin didn't know until a week ago that I had the surgery as I chose to only tell a few people, and she never told me that she had applied so needless to say I didn't know she had been turned down. I am so glad she and I finally got together as I feel I can give her hope that this will happen for her. She is also nervous about a few things and has lots of questions. It's nice to be there for her as I had all you guys here for me when it was my time.
Hopefully today she gets a call back with an orientation date.
It should be based on your BMI, not how many pounds you have to lose. I recently had a revision from RNY to DS, and my BMI was 35.2. It's not always a number of pounds. I recommend reading your insurance company policy on WLS, and use that as your bible! Best of luck to you!

I was sleeved in Aug and my BMI was 35 with no other health conditions other than being on a permanent diet and being 80 pounds overweight. It was the best decision I ever made. I met other folks during my surgery stat that had less weight to lose than I did. I don't think there is a minimum amount. It has to do with your BMI and there are lots of us that have had WLS with BMI's in the 30s. Different surgeons will say different things. Research other Drs to get second opinions.
Good luck to you.
