Hi Everyone!

I'm having my RNY on October 22nd, 2014 at the TEGH. I had done all my appointments at TWH, so this is new.

My problem is this, I live in Mississauga, my parents live in Ottawa. We are trying to find somewhere they can stay on the cheap but not skeezy. Money is very tight for them right now as my father is playing catch up after a surgery he had in March. I live in a one bedroom apartment with cats. My mom is allergic to cats. Can anyone suggest somewhere decent? I know around the TWH hotels are approx $90/night with the hospital discount. I called the two hotels in the area of TEGH and was given extreme prices of $120 and $150 with the discount.

If nothing can be found, is there another alternative?

Try Hotwire (where the name of the specific hotel is hidden until you pay) I have found amazing deals this way. Though it also helps to wait until closer to the day of as all the hotels will be trying to sell off their empty rooms.

Other suggestions: Air BNB, or look on Craigslist or Kijiji short term rentals. There are often ppl with a spare bedroom/basement apartment *****nt it out casually for extra cash. IF they're going to have a car they can probably stay anywhere in the eastern GTA - Beaches, Leslieville, Danforth, etc. and be within a short drive distance.

If you haven't already, check groupon or teambuy.  They usually have hotel deals as well.  Although hotels.com or hotwire would get a great deal as well closer to the date.

Angels were discontinued because people were not using them and were actually not very nice to the people who volunteered. If you are at TWH come out to the support group and meet other people. You might click with someone you meet.

People were not nice to them? Good gawd, what the hell have I missed? LOL

Actually, my very first angel duty experience was kinda poopy looking back on it - had pretty much forgotten about it 'til you mentioned people not being nice. That person wasn't very nice to me either in retrospect. Surprised I kept offering! hahahaha

Karen, you can be my angel. I'm incredibly nice when I'm not on an ER stretcher with 8/10 pain & nausea in a hallway where the nurses keep smacking my stretcher rails intentionally as they walk by

*laughs*

As your angel, I would be awfully understanding if you weren't all that nice at that point. And if you need a angel, I'm your girl! (crooked, rather tarnished halo and all)
