Starting solid foods and Gas Pain

I started solids on Sunday.  Monday I learned the hard way to pay attention, chew and eat slowly.  I think I'm doing that, but I still get quite a bit of gas. Last night the pain was almost unbearable.  Do you guys have any advice on avoiding gas and relieving gas pain once it's there?

I didn't deal with that myself but I'm wondering if the gas x strips would help you?

Also you may have to change what your eating for now? What foods make you gassy? Maybe try omitting them and see if that makes a difference. Hopefully it isn't everything your consuming.

Do you take prevacid? Not sure who you went through. I'm with Humber and we had to take it for the first 6 months.

Hope you feel better!

I've used Gas X before and it's helped. But not last night! The one thing that I think it may have been was frozen green peas.  It was sort of the most fiberous thing I ate and also the thing I ate for the first time.  UGH. I need some vegetables!!

I do take prevacid. 6 months for me too.

Thanks! Sonja

Yes probably the peas! It is one of the veggies listed in my book that may cause discomfort.

Hopefully things get easier....learning process ;-)

Unless you made "mushy peas" they could be hard on you.  Additionally, peas are a starchy vegetable, not a first go-to choice.

The mistakes I made with gas was not chewing enough and eating too fast. Also, proteins like eggs and deli chicken caused a big problem for me.

The pain was that I felt like I had to burp but couldn't.  Just take it easy ...

Thanks Vanessa.  I tried deli turkey breast earlier in the week and that did not go well, but it was more the texture.  So far today, I'm doing ok.

I felt the same way about having to burp, I could just hear all the bubbles squishing around in me.

It just might be something you are eating not agreeing with you at this stage.  I pretty much stayed to softer foods when I transitioned and didn't try too many new things at once, so that if I had an issue with a food, I would know what it was.   ( I am still doing that, as I now can start adding raw veggies/3 months out).

But you are absolutely right in needing to pay attention, chew, chew, chew and eat sloooowwwwwwwly!

Hope you get it sorted out...and feel better soon..

Vicky

If you are just starting solids it's way too early for peas. It's like starting a baby on solids and things are introduced systematically.
