Getting Fired for taking medical leave
If the Labour Board can't help you due to the size of the company, I wonder if the Ontario Human Rights Commission might. I can't imagine that employers are allowed to discriminate on grounds of disability. I think they are supposed to accommodate to the point of undue hardship:

In any case, you can always try calling the OHRC - here's the contact info:

I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this! I've been on my job for 27 years, with a union so I didn't have to worry about getting fired! That really sucks that someone would or could fire someone because they have to take sick leave.
yes if they do terminate you, your best option would be to get a lawyer. Good luck to you!

"2Blessed...2B Stressed"
Up until 2 years ago extended family owned a company just shy of 50 people. As long as I can remember it was their discretion; however there was never anything like this. You wouldn't want to generate this kind of 'bad optics' for the company, or the coworkers morale. I can just imagine what other workers would think of their employer? I feel for you and I am certain things will turn for the best!!
I have been thinking of you all day about this - very glad to hear all is well.
