binder's panucolectomy

Hello everyone,

I'm scheduled for a paniculectomy on July 25th.  I still haven't had my preop yet, but I have been doing some research and reading (bad idea lol)

I know that we need to get a binder for after surgery to keep everything in place for a while, my preop is 4 days before my surgery and I would like to get this ahead of time.  Anyone in Ottawa have a panni, and where did you get your binder.  Any specific store or type of binder they want us get ?

Amy

They actually gave me a couple at the hospital that (mysteriously) made their way into my go-home bag. (A couple over a few days, had a hysterectomy at the same time so I was there for 5 days). They were rather awful, but helpful for a little while. I wasn't instructed (to my very foggy memory at the time) to wear it for all that long. I'm assuming other PSs may have other instructions. My panniculectomy healed quickly and turned out very nice, despite not using a binder for any real length of time. In hindsight, I would have asked my PS for his advice on it, but I didn't see anyone other than my gynecologist in the hospital post-op. (?)

You wake up with it on. It has to be in place right away. My hosptial (St. Mike's in Toronto) provided it for me. I only used the one (for a month), and I wore a tank top underneath after awhile, so I didn't need to wa**** as much :-) Call your surgeon's office, they will have that info for you.

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

I didn't have any drains at all.

Edit: Sorry, I missed the rest of the questions. lol

I didn't have a lot of swelling at all really. I wore loose clothing and was fine. Had I not had an open hysterectomy at the same time, I think I likely could have gone back 2-3 weeks later. We all heal differently mind you.

I was told it's almost impossible to get a panni covered by ohip.  What did you ladies have to do to get yours?
