How much calories a day??

Hey guys I have a question about calories. How much calories should I have a day. I'm 2 1/2 months post op and my doctors never told me about calories all I was told was to eat 50% carbs 30% fat and 20% protein. Ought now I eat anywhere from 700-900 calories a day but other ppl who are also 2 months post op tell me that they eat 1000-1200 calories a day. I just want to know if I'm on track or if I should be eatting more or less.

Most people eat 800-1000 calories.  The formula is usually 40% protein, 30% carbs and 30% fat. I've never heard your formula given before. What hospital was that? Protein should be first.

I'm with Toronto western hospital. That's what I was given. I do have another appointment next month so it might change. As far as calories go I fall between that range so I'm ok. Also I was wondering if anyone had any recipes for health meals that are high in protein... I hate protein shakes so I eat protein bars instead (quest bars are the best) any ideas?

If you send me your email in private message I can send you some recipes.  Just be patient. May not get to it til tomorrow.

Be careful with protein bars. They have stalled many people's loss.  Keep trying shakes if you can.

I have been with TWH for four years, and just recently was there again. They now have an online version of the nutrition post-RNY. You can read it here http://www.uhn.ca/docs/HealthInfo/Shared%20Documents/Eating_ for_Health_after_Gastric_Bypass_Surgery.pdf

The formula you were given (maybe it was written down wrong?) doesn't match up. You need more protein than 20% for sure. Hope that helps!

I'm through TWH as well and they don't care about meeting a certain caloric intake a day. Just ensure you're getting your fluids and protein. I'm tracking with MyFitnessPal, and some days I'm still under 700. But whether I'm having 500, 700 or hitting 800, I'm still losing and feeling good. So I'm not worrying.  And that formula of % of carbs, fat and protein is incorrect. 40 protein, 30 fat, 30 carb is what they've mentioned. Definitely protein is the higher number, no matter what.
