Does anyone know if higher A1C levels than when you 1st started this process will affect having surgery in two weeks?

What is your A1c level? Have you had your pre admission appt?? If your A1c is over 7.5 could put surgery on hold.

Could be doctor preference. My surgeon in Ottawa said if my A1c was high 7.5 or above he would not operate until I got it lowered . I was 7.2. My bw was thankfully OK. Call your centre and ask.

I had to get mine down to under 8 before surgery or would not do it. I was put on insulin.

My last A1C  was 6 something and my diabetic nurse told me to try to keep my numbers down because she  said that they will not do your surgery unless it was down lower. I think in the 7s or 8s but I never did anything special just my normal eating patterns but I would call your centre just for your own sake.  Then you wont be guessing.  Dont forget every Dr is different.  :-)       Val

MMONA, I just called HRRH bariatric unit to confirm on this... I spoke to the RN and she said at PATTs they do not test for A1C they are testing for creatine, cbc, etc.  She said it is Dr Glazer that covers you medically and if he has given you the go ahead, you are good.  When I seen doctor Glazer, he mentioned the high blood sugar and said that that will get better with surgery... he said nothing else.  so I am hoping I am good.  Not sure which hospital you are going for, but according to the RN it is Dr.Glazer, or the internist, that monitors blood sugar and blood pressure for this whole process.

Please let us all know how you made out with PATTS.

That is good to hear.  I have had my PATTS and got the go ahead from everyone there including the anethitist.  I still have not heard back from the Nurse at the Ottawa clinic.  I hope I get to have my surgery on the 21st as I don't every want to do this OPTI again.  One week down and 2 to go
