Drinking thru a straw.....
We are told to not use a straw post surgery as it introduces extra air into our stomachs. This can be a problem for a while after surgery as your tummy's still tender and doesn't like the pressure. Also, with the gas issues encountered post surgery, the extra air doesn't help. I'm not sure if there is a guideline as to when you can start using them again.

I was told never to go back to a straw, but was told people do use them...so I'm no help at all - lol!

I was told never to go back to a straw again, for the same reasons as above - extra air can be painful, increases gas etc. But honestly, I have used them even though it's a no-no! I'll have my water with a straw at restaurants, and it doesn't cause me any pain or extra gas issues. So for the once or twice a month I am out for a meal, I figure it won't kill me. But I don't use them at home. I think there are lots of people who find they help them get all their fluids in, though... So maybe the jury is still out as to whether it really is as bad as they say for you. But always stick to what your centre says! Following their rules will give you the best results :)
yup at 5 years post-op never have used a straw....to much air intake with gulping..also eating sunflower seeds that you have to shell yourself, produces a lot of gas also...just threw that little tidbit in there for no reason.
prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.
life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!. Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
