over 60 successes please?
Hi I am having RNY surgery on April 22nd. I am 62 yrs old and I would really appreciate hearing from some Boomers out there. How was your surgery? Did you have any problems etc. I tell you why. Last night I was on another site and iy was for anyone over 60 and thry scared me to death. Almost to the point of reconsidering my decision to do this. I really need to do this and I dont like confusion. Help anyone please :-)
I had my surgery at 59 and am currently 62. I have my life back. I had no issues from the surgery and healed quite well. I no longer take my blood pressure or diabetic meds. I have less issues form Atrial fibrillation. I am more mobil. I couldn't walk very far before due to pain and stairs were a killer. I now walk everywhere I can. I am biking and doing things I never thought I could. I have fibromyalgia and osteo arthritis so still have some pain but I no longer let it slow me down.
Last Sunday was so nice out my husband and I went for a long walk in the morning (about 9000 steps) cleaned the house and backyard then went for a short bike ride.
If your doctors feel you are healthy enough for the surgery I say go for it
After all the tests, and meetings, and the Dr. says your healthy enough for the operation, go for it. I look at this as a chance for a fresh start.
I don't think there is anyone out there that wasn't scared as they were going into the operating room. If they say they weren't they're lying, simple as that.
I am 65 ...had the surgery October 2013...am down almost 100 lbs. It was a breeze...no complications...was up walking about 2 hrs after I got back to my room....stopped pain pills 2 days after surgery....no more high blood pressure, cholesterol meds, small amount of Lantus insulin at night is all I take now and its getting to be less and less as I go along. No longer use a cane to walk and walking further and further. Of course the trick is to do "exactly" what the program tells you to do and the weight will come off and you will have good health. I just followed the program and the results have been amazing. Taking the vitamins is essential!!
I had my RNY on Sept. 4/12 and my age was 62. I was told by my surgeon when I had my initial appt. that the 'cut off' date was age 60. I felt that the risks out weighed (no pun intended) the alternative. I was pre-diabetic, on blood pressure meds for a long while and was steadily losing out on mobility and emotional health and self esteem. I was approved for surgery and OMG I cannot tell you in a short message what a life changer it has been for me in so many ways. Do not hesitate to take this gift. I have lost 125 lbs and am still working on getting fit. I am 5'3" and am proud to say that I am now 'overweight' and not 'obese' in the BMI ranges. Keep up the fight...you are worth it!

I was 59-1/2 and will be 66 this month. I had zero complications, lost weight easily, and tell people I feel like 16 not 66. Follow your plan, take your vitamins, get lots of exercise, and have an attitude of gratitude.
Here is a selfie I took today before I left for my water aerobics class. I think I look OK for 66.
