Does anyone use the Gatorade protein shakes?  They only have 20g but are they ok to use?  I'm just wondering if its too much sugar etc. or if these would be an option.  They come in both chocolate and vanilla.

No. Absolutely not.

They are full of sugar.  Do not touch with a 10 foot pole. Seriously, if you want to do well even with a protein shake, you have to religiously analyze labels.  These suckers are mostly sugar and should not be incorporated.  Familiarize yourself with carbs the most.

A decent shake will have no more than 5 or 6. This shake has 45!!!  Also you want the carb number to be low and the protein number high.

For instance premier has around 6 carbs and 30 grams of carbs.  Big difference= great shake.  Gatorade unfortunately is the opposite :  20 grams of protein, 45 carbs.  If the carb number is bigger or even close to the protein number, it's crap.

A good shake has around 150-200 calories, at least 20 grams of protein per 250 ml serving  or for 30 gram scoop, and 6 or less carbs.  1 gram or less of sugar.

Thanks for the outline Dawn - great reminder for me. I drank a Boost diabetic shake last night as I needed a break from the chocolate Premier shake and it had tooo many carbs when I looked back at it. I guess the 'diabetic' label made me think it would be fine...silly me.

I've tried the Oh Yeah shakes from Low Carb Canada. They are not bad tasting and they seem to be one of the better choices that I can find when it comes to nutritional values.  It might be another option instead of the Premier Protein shakes.
