Calcium Chews

I went out this morning and bought calcium chews as I have been having a tough time with the calcium. I've tried the Bariatic Advantage ones, the liquid from Webber and I just can't do it.

So today I went to buy the Caltrate ones, which to my surprise were the Calcium Carbonate that we ARE NOT suppose to be taking. We are suppose to be taking the Citrate post op. I don't understand why they recommend them if they aren't the right type. I ended up buying the Jamison's which were a bit more money and they list the Carbonate in them as well but Citrate is first.

The Caltrate were what the dietician told me to but a couple weeks back when I called the clinic. Glad I'm more conscious now and check everything. :-)

Fortunately I am able to swallow the tabs now. But I know what you mean with the liquid. I ended up crushing the calcium and putting it in 2tbsp of applesauce. If you mix it well & let it sit for a few minutes it's not too bad

I can't wait until I can swallow pills again as I'm even having a tough time with the multivitamin. I hate the centrum chewables. Nasty things they are. Any suggestions there?

I use the chewable gummies from your independant grocer (Exact brand) I lucked out and got several bottles all for $3.14 each. A bottle will last a month. They are regular priced at $6. They are so good it is not funny.

I wasn't sure if we were allowed the gummies.

Are they Calcium Citrate? I've seen some that are phosphorus (or something like that lol)

We aren't suppose to eat gummies for the multivitamins. Atleast through Humbers guidelines. Could be different at other clinics.

I am not positive on my hospitals guidlines re: gummies, but.. They are small (size of the end of baby finger nail) so I really dont think that It would have alot of sugar in them. Ill have to ask dietician/nurse tomoro

At TWH they said no gummies, something about the lack of absorb-able minerals? For one reason or another they don't meet the requirements for the levels we're supposed to be taking. I just got some Centrum prenatal multivits and they are a teeny bit smaller than most of them. Still hard to swallow if you're not a good pill-taker, but doable!!

I also heard with calcium it's supposed to be citrate only, not the tri-cal blend that a lot of the chewables have. I just take the big horse pill and chew it up, doesn't taste like anything really, a bit dusty almost lol. Maybe a *****alky. I couldn't stomach the liquid anymore either, so so SO gross!!
