Sleep Study this Sunday
So my sleep study is this sunday at 8pm I never got my package so they will email it to me today I hope at least that's what the lady on the phone said this am. In your experience what do I need to bring? what should I expect? will I get my results right away? will they put stuff on my face im claustrophobic and hate things on my face I feel like in being suffocated :( any tips will be so helpful
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but yes, you will have things on your face, sensors in your nose, on your scalp, on your body, legs etc.. cords every where... etc..
Here is what I looked like before I went to sleep and I didnt have the nose sensors in yet.. This is what you can expect
It is NOT easy to get a good nights sleep for the best of us. I wish you the best, its more annoying than anything!
Hi there wear pjs not nightdress..there is a camera on you all night so pjs best....the first time I went it's just a bunch of wires on your head, face , chest and legs...plus where I went there wasn't anywhere to get a drink so I took a water with me...get up early on Sunday so your really tired when you go..I wasn't and never slept well there at all...good luck ....hope this helped a little...
Referral - October 3-2013 / Family Dr. Confirmed - October 31-2013 / Orientation call - November 11-2013 / Orientation (HRRH) -November 25-2013 / 1st Surgeon Appt (Dr Huynh) - January 14-2014 / SW/RN/RD - January 17-2014 / Dr Glazer March 25-2014/ 2nd Surgeon Appt (Dr Huynh)- April 10-2014 / Surgery date - August 7-2014
At the clinic I was at, I was able to have a shower in the morning (4:30 am when I woke up was technically morning), not sure if all clinics allow this or not. The stuff that they use to attach the wires washes right out. You may want to bring your own soap/shampoo to do this.
You may get a hint of the results while you are there, but the formal results will go to the doc, or you'll have to go for a follow up. If you do have sleep apnea, they may or may not wake you up and try you with a mask. If they don't wake you and you need a CPAP machine, you'll have to go back. The only thing that you might find claustrophobic is the mask (it can take getting used to). The wires are there, but don't give you any feelings of being trapped. Go tired, no caffeine at all during the day. And don't take any meds that you don't usually take. This will affect your results. As in, no gravol or sleeping pills unless it's a normal part of your routine.

That was probably one of the worst life experiences I had.
Yet another test I had to do because I am fat... I do not have sleep apnea.
I do not go to bed at a reasonable hour for most people (I wor****il 2 or 4 in the morning)... I do not sleep with lights and cameras... I do not sleep like Dracula on my back... I do not sleep with clothes on.
That said I did get through the torture test with about 2 hours of usable data ( went home at 6am and slept till noon). The results took over 2 months to get and another 2 weeks of me *****ing to get them to my doctors office and clinic.
Hope it goes WAY better for you.
Michelle
PS bring your own pillow.

Love that picture Michelle! I just had my sleep study on Monday in Sarnia. The bed was very comfy, as were the pillows, that is why it was so frustrating sleeping on my back-yes, like Dracula, but the nurse says they want to mimic the conditions of surgery. They can't operate on you when you are on your tummy or side! At my consult, I asked why is this necessary-and the nurse said, if they can eliminate/minimize ANY of your risk factors in surgery, it is worth it. The facility and staff were nice, the electrodes were a bit of a nuisance, but necessary. Looking forward to hearing results at the end of May. Yes, try to make sure you can go home and sleep. I didn't, had a cranky day at work, but got through it.
Good luck!
Terrible experience for me.
They woke me up and tried 7 or 8 masks waking me up each time
the glue crap caused me to rash up and it wouldn't wash out of my hair and stained my shirt. I had to shave my head to get rid of the glued knots of hair.
It's been 3 months since I was diagnosed with severe central sleep apnea and I have yet to actually get a machine. Considering how dire they said my apnea was it has been slow to begin treating it.
It it honestly seems like a scam to rip off insurance companies the way it's handled.
