Sleep study

A sleep study was recommended by my surgeon  during my first pre op visit after completing a sleepiness survey and I scored very high.  I have fallen asleep while driving and fall asleep during meetings.  I haven't had a restful nights sleep in years and could not figure out why.  I also snore.  I did have a sleep study and as it turns out, I have sleep apnea, and Cpap was recommended.  There are risk factors for sleep apnea  (obesity, being male, large neck circumference, snoring) but more importantly, people with sleep apnea are at higher risk for hypertension and heart disease, not to mention the impact of non restful sleep on quality of life.  Fortunately, weight loss often improved sleep apnea (including WLS), so if one is at risk, it might be a good idea to get tested.
