Iron Infusion

Finally, after almost seven months, I am booked for two iron infusions (one week apart). Can anyone tell me how long they take and the side effects you felt?  I've read online and he side effects are about as scary as the warnings on a commercial for a drug being advertised.

Having previously worked in a clinic where we did Iron Infusions, I can tell you that our protocol involved receiving a small dose first, wait a bit and then receive the rest of the infusion.  This was to see if you were going to react to the Iron.  Unfortunately, allergic reactions are not uncommon.  That being said, many patients do fine and feel a whole lot better when they have been tanked up.  We had our patients there for 4 hours as it has to be run in over a length of time with monitoring after.  Hope this helps.  BTW, I only saw 1 bad reaction in over 4 years working there and I gave thousands upon thousands of Iron infusions.

Thank you for the info. I've been reading on the internet (I know, it can feed fears) that some feel lethargic and sick to their stomachs for a few days after. I am looking forward to feeling like my former self. I've been absolutely exhausted for the last 6+ months, dark circles under my eyes and losing ridiculous amounts of hair. 

I just wanted to share that I too was booked today for 3 iron infusion sessions, 1 week apart for 3 weeks.  They said each one will take at least 2 hours and that for the first one, it would be best to have someone drive you as you don't quite know how you will feel afterwards.  They did not recommend that I plan to go to work afterwards (when I was discussing if I should go for the 10am appt or the 1pm appt).  I am having it done at HRRH Church site in toronto.  Where are you having yours done?

My current levels are ferratin 5 and Hemoglobin 111.  How about you?
