Question for fellow Dr Hagen patients. How much time off work does he advise?

Morning all,

All is well waiting patiently for my surgery date Sept 10th at HRRH. I have my pre op class on June 26th and then PATTS on Aug 20.

Wondering how much time off work I can expect post op RNY? I work in an at times physically demanding job(full time military), my military doc is waiting for Dr Hagens assessment of time off required but she suspects anywhere from 4-8 weeks off sick leave following surgery.

Anyone post op with Dr Hagen that could share his assessment of expected time off would be great.

Cheers

Dr. Hagen told me when I asked that he's had patients go back to work as soon as they get out of hospital! You won't be able to lift or exert yourself for about 4-6 weeks. My GP gave me a note for 6 weeks to play it safe, but it will depend on your recovery. I would push for as much as you can and adjust if necessary.

Expect approx 4 weeks - and then another 4-6 with minimal lifting , dont schedule your PT tests for a little while - congrats on your efforts to get your date .

Something to keep in mind...if doc writes a note for four weeks, but you want to return after two, you may not be able to.  Your employer may not want to be liable if anything happens to you if you go to work sooner than the doctor suggested.

I'm planning on asking for four weeks, but at my one week check up, if I'm feeling fine, I will ask for a new note for two weeks instead.

Good Luck!

Meh...I live alone with two cats.  Yes, I'm the crazy cat lady.

Most of my friends are through work, and if I'm home alone too long, I will go even crazier.

The more physical components of my job can be delegated...that's what minions are for.  *giggle*
