OK so question for those who self administer their B12 shots?

I cant stand the liquid under the tongue and half the time, I forget....

I dont need another pill...so i bought myself the 1000mcg Injection serum.

I an super nervous as anyone would be giving themselves a needle, but questions regarding the actual needle..

My Drug store does not sell em....its says intramuscular or deep subcutanous...

What size needles do you use?  where to buy and where to inject yourself?!

1ml = 1000mcg.....so 1 x 10ml vile should last 10 months!!!  not bad for a 9.00 investment!

THanks!

My needle is tiny. I think 1ml. I inject it into my leg. It is important to open the needle up (draw in air) and then put it in the bottle and insert the air and then take out the liquid. Otherwise it is under pressure and it will hurt. I softly jab it into my leg. If it sort of bounces I pick another spot, if it stings a bit I pick another spot. Mostly it is completely painless. I bleed a bit and one time I had a pink spot around the injection site (the b12 is a pink colour). It went away pretty quickly. I do it once a month and I feel much better. I would love to be able to do this with all my vitamins and minerals as I have low absorption (even before the surgery) but alas I don't know of any others that can be injected this way.

Not sure where you live but visit s medical supply store. Some place that sells ostomy supplies etc. They will be able to tell you what size you need. If your doctor has a nurse in the office ask if you could get a lesson on self injection.

As a precaution make sure you get your B12 levels checked. I have noticed in my patients high B12 leads the condition of Iron deficiency in absence of anemia. B12 converts Iron to HGB so your CBC will show a normal to high HGB, MCV 90-105 yet you will still have chronic fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating and face the trial of getting you physician to order Iron panels and ferritin levels

just saw your in Toronto try Stallman medical supply on Bathurst.

I would be more than happy to give you a tutorial on self injection. We don't recommend injecting air(1986) into a multimode vial anymore, especially one that you will be hanging onto for 10 months, as the air is a source for bacterial contamination.

thanks...But what size are you using?  we need bigger than a diabetic needle right?!

My friend is a nurse and can help out....but man o man.,....I have called over 10 drug stores now and noone carries needles....other than diabetic...never thought this would be so hard.

B12 is part of our post op regimen, so if they wanna test me they can but im not doing this because im deficient (that i know of)

Love how you can buy the serum but not the tool to adminiter it...LMAO (im in Toronto btw)

Thanks for your advice

Starkman's will tell you what size as it depends on how big the "patient" is.

Your nurse friend should be able to tell you I use 21 1/2 X 1

She will likely be able to explain the other diatribe as well

Sorry currently in hospital and "medicated" lol
