I take extra strength tylenol... not sure how bad your back is, but I also have a prescription for mild muscle relaxant (cyclobenzaprine) whis I take at bedtime when my back pain is flaring up from too much exercise.

I rely on NSAIDS and this was a big part of my decision to have VSG rather than RNY.  It was also the reason that OHIP covered the procedure for me.  It doesn't look like you had your surgery yet so maybe you should do some more research and try fighting for a VSG of your own.  Good luck to you.

I also have a bad back and arthritis in multiple joints so was taking NSAID's for years. The internist told me to go off them 2 weeks before surgery (d/t blood thinning effect), but when I saw the surgeon 4 weeks before surgery she told me to go off them sooner and see my family doctor to figure out something else for the pain before surgery. Started taking Tylenol Arthritis, but since I had my surgery a week ago I'm taking plain acetaminophen as you can't take any of the "long-acting" medications because they won't be absorbed (won't stay in your stomach/pouch long enough to break down the coating). I'm still in a "wait and see" time as to whether or not this will be enough...weight loss is supposed to help with the arthritis and back pain...hopefully this will happen.

I wish I had known this..I have back pain  from a car accident and lived on extra strength advil, which of course I cant take now..tried tylenol but it tastes terrible crushed up..I am almost 10 weeks post surgery and have lost 73 lbs. The back is better..but mornings and nights are bad..and havent been taking anything except 1/2 perc when its really bad..its so frustrating..I have seen advertised a pain patch you put on the pain area on your back but not sure I am use it..its called salonpas..anyone heard of it?

Salonpas contains Nsaids.  Even in patch form you can't use them :(
