Pre op at TWH Question for the Ladies
I know this may be a silly and basic question but I have never had to do pre op for a surgery before and I was wondering if I have to have all my fingernail and toenail polish removed for any of the testing? I know I need to have it removed for surgery but unsure about pre op.
Thank you everyone in advance

Sometimes you just put one foot in front of the other, even if you don't know where you're going.

It may be advisable to remove the polish off your fingers but dont worry about the toes.
when the nurse takes the blood oxygen level the device that they put on your finger passes infrared light through the finger to calculate the amount of oxygen in the blood... the nail polish may have an affect on this process.. depending on the colour... if its a light colour that the light can easily pass through you may be ok.. if the polish is a darker color it may block some of the infrared and create an altered reading which could lead to delays and other testing if they are getting a low blood oxygen level.
