Thank you thank you thank you!  I used to read your blog when I was pre op and working nights and I would dream about post op and the rainbows and unicorns that would prance through my life...They did come, I went from 276 down to 141 at my 2 year anniversary 2 months ago.  The demons are still lurking around though, my anxiety has increased, old habits slip in so effortlessly, the small binges, the justification of "treats".  The good thing is that I am aware, and making steps to beat these things over the head.  I am thrilled with how I look, and I know that there is a lot of hard work waiting for me in the future.  So thank you Dawn, for speaking the thoughts in my head, for being a constant source of inspiration and letting me know that this journey is so much more than just a goal number and more about being on the journey itself.

Congrats on a wonderful two years!  :-)  Sounds like you are well prepared mentally for some possible challenges ahead. I think that is key.  Back then, regain was rarely talked about.  I wish I'd anticipated it more.  Sounds like you got it all covered girl :) You'll rock it.

Thanks for sharing Dawn. Your story is the prefect reality check for me. I'm still pre-op and since I started this journey I've been working on working out my 'fathead'. I know myself well enough to know I like the easy way, the simpler the better and I chose to change my life seriously and permannently and switch everything to the hard way (for me) of planning and preparing and doing it all now not later.

It's been liberating to start changing my procrastinating ways now, but I still worry that my old self will take control in the future and I'll be all poutine, pizza and fried chicken eating me again.  It bothers me to know how easy it is (and will be) to justify having these things again - and how easy it has been (and may still be) for me to justify eating so much more of it then I need to or want to. Reading your story comforts me in that I'm not being blind to my future challenges, and if I know that I do this now and I can work on it now, maybe I will have a little less to struggle with later.

Thanks so much!!

Good for you for doing the mental prepwork.  I give you lots of credit for working on changing your ways now.  All the preparation of looking at our habits, eating issues...is a good thing for us later on.  Reality checks are always a good thing :)

Ahhhhhhh....poutine...(*drool*).

 Hi Dawn,

Thank you for posting this, it was a great reminder that this is a lifelong journey, not just a short one. I don't do binge eating, but I do relate to the Fathead.  I feel the changes in ways when I think about it, but I still don't feel like I've acomplished much.  I know I'm my own worst judge.  That's why I've asked at the clinic to get the real numbers.  And at my 18 month check up, I'll get them.  I found myself comparing too much to others, I know that's not right and   I want to know where I should be, not where I am compared to others.  Then maybe I will stop comparing to anyone but me.

I hope you know that you have a great wealth of knowledge and experience, good and bad, that benifits all of us.  If we didn't have our Vets around, I think we'd all be confused.

Cathy

Comparisons are an awful thing but we are always tempted to do them.  I find no matter what there is always someone smarter, thinner and richer than me. LOL I wish I were the wisest, skinniest and wealthiest, but so is NOT my life. Ha ha!

Have a wonderful Wednesday,
Dawn
