Making myself accountable
I have been fairly lax in my exercise activity since surgery...haven't even been walking as much as I feel that I should be. Today I went to the York Region Support Group and Shelly was talking about exercise...it struck a chord in me...it made me start thinking of ways to incorporate more exercise into my daily life.
My original plan was to start swimming again...my office is literally 2 minutes from the Stronach Center in Aurora...10 visits is $21.60 so around $45 a month for week days only...just had to figure out how to fit it into my schedule...thinking my lunch hour would work with public swimming from 11:30-1...but let's be honest...I work in the field 9 days out of 10 so how often would I go?
Then I looked into yoga memberships...I have always loved yoga! Memberships in my area ranged from a costly $70 a month to a jaw dropping $175 a month...ok...so yoga's out.
Then I looked at gym memberships...found similar pricing to the yoga...how do people afford this????
So...after some wise words from a co-worker who happened to be logged in tonight who is one of our "live well, be well" reps at work...I am back to swimming. She even pointed out that I can use my "lunch hour" at any time during the day because we are salaried and don't report our hours unless we work overtime (which I always do) she also mentioned using my OT hours as lieu time instead of taxable pay and using that time in the pool. There is public swimming from 6:30-9:00am. This should work out perfectly. I normally start work at 7:30...instead I will hit the pool at 7:30 and start work at 8:15. I have no false illusions that I will be able to swim more than 30 mins from the beginning (former competitive swimmer or not lol) heck I will be happy at 15mins to start but it won't impact my day and as I work up my endurance I can use my lieu time so I'm still paid while working out.
So here is where my accountability comes in. I am putting my goals here...where everyone can see them...to make myself accountable to them. I will swim every morning before going into the office...for me this is a 4-5 day a week commitment...I usually work from home Fridays.
Wish me luck!

Hi Lisi,
Thanks so much! You are too kind :)
It was so nice to meet everyone today, it was a great feeling to know that you are in a room of people who understand what you're going through.
Fingers crossed that we can figure out appropriate ways to incorporate exercise into our daily lives.
Cheers,
Mandi

Good Luck, sounds like a great plan.
I love it! Your plan sounds great! I WISH I had a pool so close!
I know what you mean about holding yourself accountable... i felt the need to do that today, so I blogged to the world about my less than perfect week...I feel better now, renewed and ready to do better!
