Question For the Ladies

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else had a Mirena in prior to surgery and if so did you have to have it removed before surgery? The NP said I might have to so I was just wondering if I should get it removed because it takes a while to get into my doctor. I'm going through TWH.

Thanks
Heidi

I am pre op... and dont have the Mirena.... but.... I had an ablation in Aug 2011 and the doc was going to put the Mirena in but I refused because of other health concerns... My gyno was well aware of the pending WLS and said that he does it all the time for Dr. Reeds patients... so judging by this I would say the Mirena is ok post op... and from what I read its actually preferred because the pill is not absorbed well post op

Thanks Dee. So happy I don't have to try to get into my gyno before hand.

I had one put in a month before surgery on the advice of my surgeon (as mentioned above, the pill doesn't work well for us after).  No concerns with it at all.

Hi there,

I had my surgery Aug. 2011
My Mirena was put that March ( 5 months before surgery )
No issues just made sure my medical info was updated with the WLC.

Good Luck!!
