I am so thankful to have found this site and to be able to communicate with you all without being judged.

I am by no means embarrassed by choosing GBS but tend to find that others who don't have problems with being overweight don't truly understand what we go through everyday.

I am well on my way in the process but have only told a very few people who I know truly understand the reasoning behind my choice.  For those who haven't researched GBS and the benefits they are judgemental and unsupportive I find.

I have to say I love this site.  I enjoy reading everones posts and find you all so informative, supportive and inspirational to me.  Just want to say
"Thanks to all of you!!!"

Hi Tanya,

I too love this site.  I find the Ontario site quite busy as compared to the other provinces.  The US main site for RNY is also quite busy, but I sometimes just shake my head at some of the posts.

Good luck in your journey.  May you have a speedy surgery date.

OH and the people that comprise it are indeed a blessing.  i contribute a large part of my success in my WLS to the people on this site....I have received so much support and guidance and caring from the people here.   More than that tho....a majority of the information that I gathered was through this site and from the veterans who had gone before me.  I love OH!

Tanya,

Thank you for your words.

I would strongly suggest that you don't go into your reasoning for this surgery with other than very very close friends and family.

For others in my "inner circle" i told them what i was doing and that the decision had been made after intense thought and  consultation with doctors and specialists and I asked for support. I didn't them think they get a say in my  decision or in the "why" of my decision.

Anyone else I either just told them nothing (my preference) or  i was going into surgery for gastroentrological issues "oh i forgot the name of it but i'll help me with the issues i've been having with my gut"  - its not big deal and I know i'll feel a lot better after it.. i left out that the issue was that my belly was too big and this would help make it smaller ..
Sometimes the best support  you can get isn't all purple puddles and pink rainbows.
