Can I substitute Ricotta for sour cream in nacho dip?

I am not an expert in the kitchen by any means so before I destroy a whole container of ricotta cheese, do you think this would be a good substitution?

1 Pkg Taco Seasoning
1Pkg of Cream Cheese
1 Container of Sour Cream
3/4 Jar of Salsa
Lots and Lots of Shredded Cheese
Shredded Lettuce (leaving this off for now)
Chopped green onion (leaving this off for now)

I usually blend the first 3 ingredients and layer the last 4 over top in a shallow dish.  I was going to substitute ricotta for the sour cream to give it a higher protein count.

Do you have any other suggestions to bring the protein count up?

Thanks!
Kelly

You just listed most of the ingredients for a recipe I use. Brown a lb or two of ground chuck, drain the grease, mix it with a 16 oz jar of picante sauce and layer it on top of the cream cheese/taco seasoning base. Add the lettuce, onion, cheese, etc and enjoy. That will add oodles of protein.

btw...I hate ricotta

I love this dip too!  It was a treat Pre-op but now I am looking for a way to make it a more frequent thing.

Do you link shrimp?

If so there is a shrimp dip very similar to this that I just love.

I will look up the recipe if you want it

Unfortunately, I am not a fish and seafood eater.

I am thinking of gearing up to give some less "fishy" seafoods a try but I may not ever be ready to do it. I grew up in a house where the major source of income for at least half my childhood was fresh water fishing - commercial fishing, recreational salmon fishing.  We ate it a lot and I never liked it.

Sounds really yummy the way it is but I have heard that ricotta is a good source of protein and alot of people to do use it for that reason..I'm 19 days out and looking for something yummy to eat other than soup and yogurt. Now do you eat it just like that just by spooning it out of dish or do you put it with something..Putting refried beans in there would also give you some more protein that is if you like them...

I would have normally dipped tortilla chips in there but now I am thinking of scooping it onto cheese crisps.

I might also try getting some low carb ww tortillas/wraps, cutting them up in triangles and deep frying or baking them crisp to use to dip.  Anybody tried that?

I've honestly never tried refried beans before.  They just don't look appetizing and wasn't something I thought I would like???
