Just needed to get this off my chest from holding it in for so long.

A few years ago, I was involved with a cold blooded killer.

Not involved in a way that you may think, but an innocent party, who just happened to live in the same house of a soon to be killer.

We lived at the apartment (actually a house, which the landlord turned into a 3 apartment place by making apartments in the basement, which ended up being illegal apartments at that) for 3 yrs and knew the killer for that amount of time.

We never bothered with him except when he needed to use the phone or if he was hungry. ( I could never stand to see anyone go hungry and I knew they (Pierre and his gilfriend) had little to no money, so I would often give them cans of food and freezer food including meat, etc when they didn't have any.

I owe my life to God, his Angels and my cat named Beethoven and he was named that cos he is almost completely deaf and knew that when we bought him from the animal shelter just after we moved into the house/apartment.

Beethoven is a wonderful cat, and he loves me so much and I of course love him dearly, he doesn't come around often for attention, but when he wants it, he certainly gets it, lol.

He will often sleep at the foot of my bed or he sometimes (quite often) sleeps over my head, and when he wants to eat (runs out of food, cos his brother Bam eats it all on him, lol) or wants to go out, he bothers me til I do take care of his needs, lol.

When Richard goes out of town, Beethoven will sleep on his side of the bed, to keep me safe, lol.

As for Pierre, here is an update on what happened or a bit of it anyways. It was in the papers a few days ago, which brought up all the memories and an awful time in our lives a few years ago.

Hatchet murderer gets life sentence

The man who killed convenience store clerk Joane Bazinet in 2004 with at least 17 blows from a hatchet was sentenced to life in prison.

Pierre Leduc, 27, stood with his hands clenched behind his back as Justice Johanne Lafrance-Cardinal described the "brutal, vicious attack" that took the life of the mother of two.

"Nothing we can do today will bring back Joane," said Lafrance-Cardinal. "The only one to blame is Mr. Leduc."

On the morning of Sept. 9, 2004, Bazinet's mutilated body was found in the back room of her father's Lefebvre Street convenience store.

Police arrested Leduc, who lived a few houses down from the store and was a frequent customer, two days later.

Leduc pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in December 2007.

With time already served, the earliest he will be eligible for parole is 2019.

Bazinet's parents, her brother, and her sister all delivered victim impact statements before Lafrance-Cardinal handed down her sentence.

------------------

This murder happened all for the sake of drugs, cos he was hooked on them. Joane used to babysit him when he was a child, and he still did this to her.

After he had killed her, he came home (he lived in our rented basement, we rented the upstairs) and started asking for my daughter and I just thank God she wasn't there, cos I am sure he would have killed her.

He liked me, cos when they needed food, I always gave him some and I tried to help him out by allowing him to use my washing machine which was in the basement next to his apartment.

The day he visited me, (a cop had been to our house, asking questions, and since I didn't know anything she left) and Pierre was acting really strange, (I never really allowed him in the house before, cos all he ever wanted was to use the phone and he always stayed at the door) but this time he came in which made me nervous, but he said he wanted to use the phone, and he walked over to where it was, but didn't use it.

Then he went into the hall (looking up and down the hall) and asked where Katie was (thank God, due to the murder down the street, I sent her away to stay with my brother and his family, cos I didn't want her seeing all of this) and I told him no, she is not here and then he asked where Richard was. I told him he was at work.

So he looked down the hall again and said are you sure no one is home, that is when the hairs on my neck started standing up and I knew something was up.

I walked into the living room cos he said people were watching him including me.

I told him, (which was the truth) that I don'****ch anyone and he should know that. He kept saying well, I know people are watching me and I saw you doing it too, and again I told him, I didn't know what he was talking about, cos I didn't do that kind of stuff.

(Later the cops told me he was fishing for info and to see how much I knew, and since I knew nothing that and Beethoven is what saved my life.)

I walked back into the kitchen and Beethoven was on the table, so I petted him and when Pierre came near me again Beethoven started hissing and swinging at him.

Then he stuck his face in Beethoven's face and said I'm not scared of you, and pushed him off the table, Beethoven got back on and stood between us, and then Pierre started circurling me around my table, saying that he could kill me and there was nothing I could do about it.

I told him he was right, there is nothing I could do about it (no use in lying), so I just said that to him.

Beethoven kept up with him standing between us, hissing and had his back up and was clawing at him..

He then grabbed Beethoven and through him against a wall, and then backed me up against the sink and I had no place to go and he bent over me, bending me back over the sink.

I looked him straight in the eye, cos I was sure he was going to kill me, right there and than, and I said, "you know if I have to die, I would prefer to be shot, cos the thought of being stabbed to death and the pain it would cos would be too unbearable and I just can't stand the thought of all that pain and no one deserves to die like that".

He had a look on his face that was like you know when a "light bulb" goes on and said I have to go, and basically ran out of the house.

I locked the door, right behind him, soon after the cops arrested him for Joane murder.

I tell you it was hell, for quite awhile, the cops basically lived at our place for about a week getting evidence and our basement was light up like a Christmas tree at night due to the stuff they put on the walls looking for blood.

I brought coffee and cookies and sandwiches to the cops all the time, til their special van unit arrived and they used our bathroom all the time as well.

The cops were pretty shaken up by the way he murdered her, I didn't know anything other than that he stabbed her, but that was even wrong, we found out later he hacked her to death with a dull blade.

So I tried to help them as much as I could.

I think the thing that finally broke me down was when a school bus drove by with a bunch of teenagers on it and they kids all started yelling at our house (I was looking outside the front window, cos I could hear some noise and went to check it out, cos I thought the cops wanted something)  and the kids were chanting, murder house, muder house, we know you live there, and alot of stranger who didn't know the lay out of our home, thought we were Pierre's parents, so alot of people were making comments to me and Richard when we did our daily walks.

The cops heard a few people's comments and said they are not related and to leave us be...........................

After the bus incident Richard took me to a hotel, so I didn't have to deal with it for a few days.

That is basically what happened, a few other things did as well, but that is the basics.

Richard took it hard, cos the day before Pierre killed Joane, he had saved Pierre's life, cos he had been going through drug withdrawal, and went to the hospital and got a perscription for some kind of drug and he overdosed.

Richard had gone downstairs to get our portable phone from Pierre, cos he wanted to use it, and then he found Pierre on the bed, barely breathing and did what he had to while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. (Richard used to be a paramedic, so he knew what to do).

When the ambulance came they told Richard he had saved Pierre's life, and rushed him to ER at the hospital.

Richard felt good about that, until they released him the same day, (couldn't believe that the doctor would release him after only a few hours of him almost dying) and then the next day he goes and kills Joane.

He then blamed himself saying if he hadn't had saved him, Pierre wouldn't have been able to kill Joane.

I told him, that was not what he was supposed to do, he did the right thing. How were we supposed to know what would happen the next day.

Thanks for letting me get it off my chest, and I hope I haven't upset anyone with this.

I'm just greatful that neither Richard or me have to go and testify anymore since he has plead guilty and I personally think he should have been charged with 1st degree murder, cos he had planned the killing, cos after finding out that they had alot of money in the store basement (Joane paid the paper man off in cash, after getting it from the basement of the store), he went home and got the hatchet and then did what he did.

God and his Angels were with me that day, as well as with me when I sent Katie away, cos had she been home, things I'm sure, would have been very different.

Hugs,

Nancy

Yes, I'm so very happy I had them all as well.

Everything happens for a reason, and Beethoven was God's gift to me, when I went looking for a kitten and I ended up with a 6 month old Beethoven, lol.

They were going to put him down, so I took him before they could, lol.

He was meant to be with me.

I'm sorry, I sent shivers up your back, I didn't meant to upset you , I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Hugs,

Nancy

Thank you Rose for your kind words and comments.

Yes, our pets are gifts from God and that is why, with my pups, I made sure they went to families who would love them and I'm so very happy with all of there new parents, lol.

Beethoven is still very protective of me when he has to be, and always seems to sense when I'm not at my best, lol.

Many a times, when I wasn't well, he would hang around me, being there for me and all, lol.

I'm so happy you have your special little friend to help you when you need it as well.

Thank God for our babies, lol.

Hugs,

Nancy

Wow Nancy that is horrible! It reminded me of my experiences...

in high school (grade 9) I became best friends with a girl who I later found out was the sister of the man who brutally murdered my favourite aunt (my mom's younger sister) when I was younger. It affected us all through high school with kids splitting up and taking sides which is not what either of us wanted so high school sucked for me.

I also trained a young man a few years later. I was 20 and he was 19 and I worked in a pet store and was just married and pregnant with my son. This man was belligerant and would be almost cruel in his comments to me when I would try to train him or if I said anything when he was late. A few months after that he murdered his 7 month old son and threw him in a garbage bag in the river, then told the police he had been kidnapped. Well, they found the bag/body and arrested this guy and his 15 yr old gf. As far as I know this guy served many years in prison and was let out a while ago but never came back to this city to protect himself.

I could never understand how any person could harm another human being.....

Sounds like you had a horrible time as well, thank God he was watching over you as well.

Isn't it sad how people treat other in our world, thank God there are only a few out there.

I think that is why this group is so important, we get to know each other and see there is alot of good in the world, sort of like another haven we can come to when we need to, lol.

Big hugs,

Nancy

My poor Nancy.  I am so glad that that creep didn't hurt you.  The cat is a good guard cat now if he only was the size of a tiger that creep would of been a snack for your cat.  Hugs you and glad it is over for you until the parole hearings if you want to attend and tell the board why he shouldn't be released.

Hugs GF!
