Topic: Did anyone have their surgery at St Francis Hospital???
I am having my surgery at St Francis hospital on the 14th of October. I wanted to know if they make financial arrangements with you if you have a hefty co-pay?

Topic: First Visit Today!
I'm actually from Kansas, but I'm posting here because Dr. Walton at Weight Wise is doing my surgery.

I had all my new patient appointments today.  I got there at 9:30, but because of some scheduling mistakes, I didn't leave until 3:45!  Nevertheless, I'm really excited to start the process and lose my 11 pounds.

I chose the VSG, and luckily everyone at Weight Wise agrees.

Did anyone else waver between completely excited and completely scared out of their minds?

Topic: So excited! Surgery date next week for my son!!
Just got news that my son's surgery will be next Wednesday!  He's a self-pay patient so we didn't have to wait for insurance approval.  He's had to follow the same presurgical plan that Dr. Walton had my husband and I do, though, and he's had to lose 45 pounds before surgery, and he's done it!  I'm very proud of him.  It's been great that he's been able to observe both my husband and me after our surgeries in the last couple months, and so he definitely knows what to expect.  Next week he reclaims his life.  I'm so happy!!!

Hi Mary,
Gosh you are doing great!!!!.

Call Dr. Keith's office.  I think it's at your 6-month visit that they go over diet, carbs, calories, etc.
Right now if you are following your diet plan, i.e. water, protein...etc then you don't have to be overly concerned about the calories and carbs.

You should be able to determine which doctors are in network from the BCBS website.

I'm federal BCBS and Dr. Ronnie Keith at Oklahoma Weight Loss Options, in Norman, is in network for me.

When I originally checked Drs. Broussard/Walton were not and would have been a cash pay only.....but that could have changed.

If you have documented proof of trying and failing at weight loss, i.e. thru your family doctor,  Weigh****chers, exercise regime, diet pills, etc etc.  Then you may be looking at much less than a year.   Also if you have other health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea...all of these are taken into consideration as well as your BMI.

I had over a year of documented WL failures, when Dr. Keith's office contacted BCBS my surgery was approved without an additional waiting period.

Good luck...

Topic: RE: How long did you have to actually wait for your surgery after insurance approval

It will likely depend on your surgeons schedule and also on any pre-surgery requirements your surgeon may have.
Some surgeons require a percentage of pounds lost before surgery.
Others require a 1 to 4 week liquid diet prior to surgery.

My surgery could have been done in less than 3 weeks after insurance approval, but I postponed my surgery until the first of the year so my hubby could have some vacation days to spend with me.

Everything happens for a reason.

I would think it would depend on the Surgeon's schedule. In my case (and I am TriCare and had my RNY at a MTF) it was about 6 weeks from my pre~op one on one with my Surgeon to I actually had the surgery.

Where do I even begin...I found out through my ins I have a 12 mos failed dr suppervised wait before i can think about being approved for rny wls. I called a dr close and they arent in network for me and basically a cash office. I was looking at walton and broussard..(sp?) at weightwise. Not sure if they  are in network or not...how do I find out this...I have the year wait and not sure how to go about that either. If I lose really good then they wont approve me based on my bmi.  I am borderline as it is. I wouldnt be in this boat if i could lose even with dr help, so I dont wanna seem like I dont wanna even try. What do I do??? I am at 245 bmi 41. Help Help ..thx
