The WeightWise Group in Edmond welcomes any and all to attend. I don't get up there as frequently as I would like, but it meets the first 3 Thursdays of the month at 6:00 (or 6:30) at Summit Medical Center, 1800 S Renaissance Blvd, Edmond, OK (405) 359-2473. The 3rd Wednesday of the month is the Life Wise Group (Long-term WLS patients). You can check out the meetings on the web site www.weightwise.com and in the upper right hand corner is an icon for "group calendar" Hope this helps (but if a group gets started in Tulsa, I would love to know about it!)

Hi Jackie,

I'm fairly new to Tulsa myself, moved here from Branson, MO a couple months or so ago and have been looking for a support group.  All I have found so far are support groups through some of the surgeons here and you have to be with that surgeon in order to attend the support group .  TheMolly on the board here from Broken Arrow had posted when I asked about one that she is being certified from OH to start one soon so hopefully that will get up and going soon, I sure hope so anyway, I really miss attending a support group, support from others is really important.  If you hear of any please please let me know.

Welcome to Tulsa!

Andy

I'm so excited for you, please let us know how it goes? I am speaking with a surgeon about having it done in maybe march or april. I am training for a 1/2 marathon so I want to wait until that is over before I do it. I'm sure you will do great. God Bless and take care. Check me out on facebook if you want. Just google Christy Castro. I would love to chat with ya sometimes.

Wow Lois, you're doing amazing!!! You know in support group after you give an update, Dr. K asks you to tell the tip that led to your great success. I know there are many tips you could give, but if you had to choose just one, which one would you list?

(By the way, do you ever come to support group meetings anymore? I missed several weeks in a row so I wasn't sure if I missed one of your sporadic visits.)

Topic: Support Group in Tulsa?
Hello there,

I'm new to Tulsa from California and I'm looking for a support group.
I had RNY July 16, 2009 and have been on the Cali board here for a long time.

Can anyone recommend any groups, get togethers, meet and greets, etc?

Thanks so much!

Jackie

Funny, I read your story after writing a reply to you.  We could have been twinkies!!  Our journey's even had many things in common.  You have done amazing too!  Do you go to the WW support groups?  Have we met?  At my start, I weighed 388, had to loose 39 prior to surgery.  I had always been the big girl too.  5'8 and big for my age.  But, I was always happy!  I have a very loving husband, that has literally stood by me through thick and thin!!  I used to say it was amazing I was so healthy at 388.  No high blood pressure, no diabetes, etc... Just blessed!

Thanks for the reply and words of encouragment!  Sometimes, I know that I beat myself up.  It does help to get it all out there.

It has been a much better day today.  I have not had time to exercise the last several days, and I think that is bothering me too!  Someone, once told me to fall in love with my treadmill...and I have!  Today, I was able to stay on the plan and drank all my water!  I know the drill so well!

I am very pleased with my progress and surgery.  I have done well, but, I still don't trust myself.  That is kind of sad, I know.  I never had a goal weight for so long, I kept myself from making one.  Now, that I have it is driving me crazy to get there!

I had my surgery, the sleeve, in June of 2009.  So that makes me about 17 months out.  It has been an amazing journey.  Dr. B did my surgery, and yes he is the greatest.  I feel like it is amazing, God took me exactly where and who I needed to go to.  He is a good balance for me, direct and kind! I used to let people discourage me.  He has been nothing but encouraging!!  In fact, the whole office staff is amazing!  I love that Barbara, that helps with the vitamins and food.  She makes me laugh and is so sweet.  I feel blessed to have gotten to know them all!

I can't seem to get a new picture to go on my profile.  It says always gives me error message that it is too large.  Any suggestions?

So, what is your story?

I knew about the Colace!  =)  Now, it wouldnt' have occured to me to do squats so I could use my leg muscles to get up and down more easily.  Hmm, gotta go get busy doing squats!
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

You went first on the sleeve and paved the way for me so just returning the favor! ha ha!!  You are going to do great. You are so educated about the process and everything involved.  Before you know it this will be in your rear view mirror.  If I could tell you one thing (besides taking colace with loratabs) it would be to start doing some squats now to strengthen the legs because that one exercise really did help me to get up and down out of chairs without having to use any kind of lift chair or anything.
