Topic: RE: Has anyone used Dr. Luis V. Gorospe of Tulsa?
You can look him up online and get a report on malpractice. Also, you can look on oscn.net and find out if people have sued him and won. I am using Dr. Fisher in Tulsa. That's how I check him out. Plus, I asked my general doctor. Good luck.

Topic: Insurance
I am having insurance problems. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Did anyone else have problems with them. It seems like my doctors' don't know how to send the information they need to make a determination. My insurance says it's Dr. Kirk's and Dr. Fisher's fault and the doctors say it is the insurance and I am in the middle. I just want it straightened out. Any advise?

Dr. Gorospe was my surgeon, i was sleeved on 12-27-2010     I would highly recommend Dr. Gorospe. He is very passionate about wls and the affect it has on peoples lives. He told me going into surgery that my left side would be sore due to the fact that this is the side the stomach was removed and as soon as i woke up from surgery, if it wasn't for that one spot on my left side, i would have never known i had surgery. I have not one time been sick...the ladies in his office have been very helpful if i have had any questions.
My mom went with me to my first consutation with Gorospe and he sat in the room and answered her questions for an hour and a half and when we left, she said "i believe he would have set there another hour and a half if i had more questions"
I know two people who have had the bypass with gorospe, one had the band with him and one person who had the bypass done by another surgeon, used gorospe to fix her problems she had. Everyone i know would also recommend him.
Have you been to his seminar?
and gorospe is in Broken Arrow now and does the surgery in Muskogee

Thanks, Happycat, for wishing me well. Maybe in a while I'll be able to have a more positive outlook on things. I am thankful for the remission of my severe diabetes and so thankful that I can walk into a store without getting the looks of disapproval that morbidly obese people get. I pray that everyone that needs this surgery can have it done safely. And I'm glad that it worked out well for you, as it has for so many others I talked to before deciding to go ahead.

I used Dr. Joe Bob Kirk at New Beginnings, he practices out of Bailey Medical Ctr. in Owasso, Dr. Kirk, his staff, the hospital and hospital staff go above and beyond to provide the best care in the area. He works along with the doctors from Surgical associates of Tulsa, a great group of docs. I worked with my surgeon for three years atSt. Francis and the whole group is very caring and patient friendly. I can't say enough about Bailey Medical Ctr., it is very small and a wonderful experience. Well worth checking them out.

I am so sorry you have had so many complications.  I hope your recovery goes fast and you are back on your feet soon.

The vast majority of people have few or no complications.  Most recover as planned.  However, with any major surgery, do your homework.  Know what you are getting into before signing a surgical consent!

I have never regretted my decision to have WLS for one second!  Many people say they got their lives back after WLS, not true for me.  I GOT a life after WLS.  I lived shell of a life as a morbidly obese woman.  Now, I am fully involved in life!  Life as a normal sized person is amazing!

I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)

Topic: A Friendly Warning about rushing into surgery
I had gastric bypass on November 15 and have lost about 50 pounds, which is so exciting! But there where alot of post op complications and I almost died. Spent a month in hospital and endured 4 surgeries, medically resistant staph infections, fluid on my lungs, you name it. My suture line split open twice and the sight of your own blood cascading all over the floor is something I wouldn't wish on anybody. Anyway, I am presently wearing a Wound Vac to suction all the infection from my abdomen and am fine, compared to the basket case I was for a long time. I just want to say, if you have had multiple abdominal surgeries (I've had 5 hernia surgeries) insist on an MRI before you have the surgery. My doctor had no idea what he was getting into, and truth be told, I wanted this surgery so bad I wasn't being a good steward of my own health and welfare. Please don't repeat my mistake. My medical bills are right around 200 thousand dollars and still ongoing.
