okay....... I had to sleep on this one.   I really do not know what to tell you,  I am not there yet.  I told someone yesterday when they asked me what I was going to do when I reached my goal weight that I was going to fight to stay there.  I never went in to this process with the idea that this was going to be easy.   I was worried whether this would work or not.  I know that I am only 9 months into this and I really do feel like I can live this way.  I love the way each step feels.  I am a firm believer in a positive attitude.  Find some way to involve positive in your goal to keep your weight at a level you are comfortable.  I really appreciate you being honest about this.

He needs to find out if his insurance company will cover bariatric surgery. Unless he's planning to switch insurance companies, it won't really do any good to know which others will pay for the surgery. The insurance company I have will pay for bariatric surgery because my company has negotiated it. My friend that lives in Washington has the same insurance, but they will not pay for the surgery.

Tell him to check on his insurance card for either the website or phone number to contact the company and find out directly from them.

Best of luck.

Topic: Which Insurance
Hi everyone,
I am posting this for my cousin. He has been overweight for a while now and he was looking into getting gastric bypass. He lives in Bartlesville but can travel to a surgeon that is covered. He is just not sure of what insurances in Oklahoma cover gastric bypass. I was wondering if you guys could give me a hand and tell me what insurances cover your gastric bypass or even your DS. I am just trying to help him out and send him in the right directions. Also along with the insurance that covers the surgery could you give me a condensed list of what is needed to get the surgery covered (ie: 6 month diet, 5yr history). I am also going to post this in the insurance forum.

Thanks in advance for any help. PS. My cousin's insurance does not cover the surgery so he is looking to change insurances. Thanks

Nathalie

I believe she's referring to the links on each page that give us the option to share the page with our Facebook friends, or Twitter etc... A lot of us come here to find support among people who have similar experiences. With the ability to share pages with facebook, it takes away some of the privacy/anonymity.

What if I want to come here after surgery and complain about not having a BM for a week? Will I feel as free to discuss that here knowing that any Tom, Dick, or Harry might see what I write because someone "shared" it to their social networking site?

(Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread with my rant.)

I don't know what was on Facebook that upset you.  I must have missed it.  I hope you find a spot that makes you happy.  That's the most important thing.

I just don't have time any more to mess with all the social sites.  I pick one and stick with it.  Currently that is Facebook because more of my family and friends use it.  One thing about this surgery is that it has caused me to be much more active so I have less time for goofing off on the web.

I had a complication and insurance paid for most of it.  All I was responsible for was deductible and the out of pocket percentage up to the total pay amount.  I think that was about $1200.

I'm on Healthchoice with the state.  They are notorious for not paying when they should so most other insurance should be better.  Standard disclaimer:  YMMV depending on the provider.

First off, you come HERE every day! You have to be accountable for everything, you might as well start here. It doesn't take much to  show up "here". You go back to basics--you KNOW what you should be eating and what you shouldn't be eating. YOU KNOW how much water you should be drinking. YOU KNOW how much exercise you need.

I am certainly not as far out as you, but so far I've not regained my hunger and pray to God it won't come back. I can totally live with that! I will gladly take my small grumbling, noisy, pouch for a full-sized worthless one any day.

You are the one with the power.
You are the one that makes the decisions.
You are the only one that can make choices for you.
Hang in there!

I guess I was more worried about what would happen IF I DIDN'T have the surgery, than with what if I had complications after paying cash!

Dr B was my surgeon, and I paid cash. I absolutely and confidently went into surgery KNOWING that I couldn't have any complications because I was paying cash and there was just no way I could be sidelined by them. I went in positive, left there even more positive, released in about 30 hours, went back to work in 5 days. Zero problems. 8+ months out now. FEEL GREAT, never had a bad day, as if it never happened.

I am not naive enough to not realize that things happen, especially in surgery, but it has SUCH A LOW incidence of complications to begin with, and if you do what your doctor prescribes you'll be FINE. Better than fine!
