It isn't just WLS that can result in hernias. My sister had open heart surgery when she was 36 and had to have two hernias repaired a few years later (one was really bad). Her original surgery was successful, but they wound up splitting her down the middle, closing that & turning her over to go between ribs on the side of her back. It was emergency surgery for a dissected aorta.
My point is that our WLS surgeries may have been scheduled, but they were also emergencies in their own right. Some of us have had complications and will have more. However, I've gotten off a lot of my meds and am planning to outlive my parents who died in their mid 60s. Since my husband's parents are still living on their own at 96 & 98, I don't intend to leave him to the mercy of some widow lady.
I wish you well on your next round of surgeries. Feel free to vent anytime. If I become too much of a Pollyanna, please tell me to stuff a sock in my mouth. However, I figure you want some positive feedback or you would have gone elsewhere.

Yes, I wish I could wake up and it be a year or two down the road. I'm nervous about how everything will evolve. The food part is really easy for me right now. I'm more worried about establishing a work out routine. Speaking of which, I need to scoot, so I can go walk on the treadmill. By the way, will this interminable winter ever end?

Congratulations on making the choice.
This can change your life, but it won't solve your problems. By now you've probably met with the psychologist and heard something similar. I love the way I'm feeling and I feel better every day. However, annoying people haven't improved. My attitude seems better, though.
I had a sleeve 10/21/09. It's great.

Isn't there a privacy option for each of us where we can block what we write from being on Facebook. I don't want to have to censor myself when I jot off a reply. On the other hand, I may not want someone from work reading a rant about anything. I live in a very small town and have a high visibility job.

I'm probably the worst case scenario you'll hear from. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I feel better every day.
Dr. B. insisted I needed a second surgery. The anesthesiologist was about $1,200 extra. The hospital wrote down all but about $3,000. They're letting me pay it out monthly. Dr. B didn't charge anything else.
Talk to Dr. B. about it if you're really worried. I'll never forget him saying in his Louisiana accent, "Ax me anything."
I'm confident that I will live long enough to pay off the extra surgery & I think I can pay it out of the money I'm not spending on food.
Good luck. Think positive, but have a back up plan.

Like the other poster, I decided I was more in danger of complications from fat than complications from surgery. It was just a risk management decision-nothing more.
Some of the conversations going on in your head "I'll go into debt, I caused this myself" are just good old what if what if fear of the unknown-and you have to take reasonable caution to manage probable risks, and tell the other stuff to take a hike and know you will deal with it IF and when it happens.

This is a great place to start. And knowing that you have to do it yourself is another big plus. The surgery, the guidance, can only go so far.
For me, when I stray (as I did over the fall) I start with one thing first, conquer that, add another thing. It's just too overwhelming for me to try to fix it all at once. And now, my problem is a 15 pound problem currently-so I can take a little longer to tweak. I don't want it to get to be a 150 pound problem for sure, but I have the time to slowly make the changes I need to get back on track 100 percent.
I will say, regardless of surgery type-getting the carb monster under control is usually the first step. I just had what has become my daily serving of Russel Stover's Sugar free truffles-If I behave in all other ways carb wise-I get my sugar free junk fix. Is that optimal-no? But right now it keeps me out of bigger pitfalls-and I feel both a sense of control and of righteous reward. Also, it helps me go potty (there I said it).
I've been laid up with a back injury, and focusing on what I can do-not eating carbs, has kept me from going beserk about the exercise I cannot do right now. And that is a good philosophy-what CAN you do right now?

I actually do more social networking since WLS-I'm more involved in my horses and dogs and it's a great way to get training advice, keep up with people from other states.
I'm trying to get more dog sport venues to open up in Oklahoma though-I think more people would play if they didn't have to travel to Texas to compete. I know the travel right now is prohibiting me from going full force with flyball-I have a great dog-but I can't afford to be gone 3 weekends a month cause I have other dogs too.

Yes-it's the link to facebook from this site-I like facebook-but my father and brother and dog friends don't really need to read about my body image issues or sex after WLS or the things we used to talk about here.
Also, the times I've seen someone share a link (it's not ever been from this forum) it's usually done in a mean way and it opens someones comments up for non WLS people to discuss.
