Topic: plastic surgery
I need some advice on two plastic surgeons(Dr. Padgett and Dr. Sawan. I have appts. with both. I would like to see some photos of patients that had a tummy tuck and inner thighlift. I have visited both doctors web pages but I could not see the scars from the surgeries. I am afraid  of the scarring  from these surgeries. I have a nasty scar from my vertical GBS, which I was hoping that the plastic surgeon could improve. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

HCSC Removes Mandatory Pre-Operative Weight Loss Requirement

Health Care Services Corporation (HCSC), the parent company of BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) of Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico has eliminated the mandatory six month weight loss requirement prior to bariatric surgery. Multiple meetings and correspondence between ASMBS members and Medical Policy representatives of HCSC resulted in this improved access to care for patients suffering from obesity.

Access to care became more onerous when HCSC increased the preoperative requirement from three to six months on March 15, 2011. That led to a meeting between the officers of the Illinois State Chapter of ASMBS, Drs. Christopher Joyce and Rami Lutfi, and BCBS of IL at which time clinical data was provided and reviewed. The Chairman of the Insurance Committee, Dr. Jaime Ponce, the Chairman of the Access to Care Committee, Dr. John Morton, and the Chairman of the State Chapters Committee, Dr. Lloyd Stegemann provided valuable assistance and guidance. In addition, the draft of the ASMBS Position Statement on Preoperative Supervised Weight Loss Requirement was instrumental in preparation for the meeting. Through Dr. Stegemann, similar efforts were applied in Texas between its State Chapter and BCBS of Texas.

After months of correspondence between the state chapters’ leadership and BCBS, followed by an objective internal review of the medical evidence by the medical policy makers, HCSC came to the conclusion that the pre-operative weight loss requirement should be removed. That was revealed at a meeting in Chicago between the President of ASMBS, Dr. Robin Blackstone, the President of the Illinois Chapter of ASMBS, Dr. Joyce, and the Director of Medical Management of BCBS of IL, Dr. Rose Ann Madarang, on September 21, 2011.

This important step towards better access to care for our patients was accomplished through advocacy and teamwork by ASMBS leadership and a willingness of HCSC to evaluate the medical evidence objectively.

Dr. Varnell is very caring doctor I was refered to Dr.Varnell from Dr Kirk. I have been asked by several specialist about Who is doing my surgery and when I tell them Dr. varnell they all have told me I am in good hands. Dr Varnell's nurse is also very caring and always returns my phone calls. Dr. Kirk was awesome also.

I have an appointment in a few weeks with Dr. Varnell.  Im looking for any information on how good he is. If anyone has had any problems with his surgeries or good results? Any information would be helpful in deciding on keeping appointment or changing to a different Dr.

Topic: At it again
HI everyone. Well I am at it again, trying to get Medicaid to pay for WLS. I am in the process of doing the 6 month supervised diet now, just 2 months to go. I actually celebrated a couple goals lately. first was being able to finally weigh on the doctor office scales! second was losing 5% of starting weight! I am very proud of myself for accomplishing both these! My success is a lot to do with Weigh****chers and the great ladies I have met there.
If anyone has gotten Medicaid to pay for WLS please message me with any suggestions on how to get through the process as painless as possible.
