I am counting calories, I guess you'd say. I am tracking everything I eat on myfitnesspal and I am exercising 4-5 days a week, fibromyalgia be darned. It gets harder to stick with the initial "surgery" habits when you're further out and I will admit I managed to put on a good amount of weight between meds, health issues, and just general bad habits. I got depressed about it, then I decided to do something about it. I have lost 30-odd lbs now since the start of the year and I have around 20 to go. I will not give up at this point, even when it gets frustrating to stick with it. I want fast food so bad at my lunches you wouldn't believe it. I miss sugar. However, it's getting easier as time goes by. I'm staying around 1000-1200 calories a day, by the way. I have gone from 190 lbs to 160 lbs and I am trying to maintain around 140-145 lbs. I will be 8 years post-op in August and I have also had 2 babies, since my RNY. It's been a rollercoaster, but I wouldn't change it (except maybe to have better habits all along, but we live and learn).

Man it's good to see familiar faces with the same concerns. Well....kind of good. I have been an OH lurker for many years and watched soldierbaby be a great success and I think have a baby and still be a success. Sorry to hear that everyone is having the same issues. It's interesting to think that no matter what we do or for how long we will never change our thought and habit processes when it comes to food. We are the unlucky people who will battle weight for our entire lives. Having realized all this just recently.... And realized a 20 lb gain in the past year, I sought professional help. Not the kind you're thinking... Those white coats make my butt look big. No, I went the old fashioned route and talked to an old weight loss doc. He suggested cutting the carbs. Completely.. Like the old days... Give everything in your house to your neighbors, burn the rest (just kidding) and start over. No chips, crackers, bread, pasta, or candy. No sugery pops and no buts. He handed me the diet plan for the HCG people and said "use this as a guide" then he kicked my rear out and said to come back in a week. So no, I'm not doing hcg or eating only 500 calories, but I am now working on very lean proteins and veggies and have eradicated the nasty from my life. It sucks. There is no way around it. The good thing is that the results are instantaneous. It's like surgery all over again....except I dont hurt and I can eat on day one.
When all else fails, go back to the beginning. You don't need to pay Walton or anyone else for this advice, I am giving it free. The restart plan isn't what you think, it's protein bars and shakes and all the stuff that doesn't really fit with our lives. It's expensive and time consuming. I know. I tried. Stay true to what you already know. We've been here before and we can overcome this.

so we have all been there. We reached a goal, but now....well now things are slowly reverting back to the times when life was easier. Burgers and fries were a quick pick-me-up instead of that damned chicken and veggies. One Dr. Pepper won't hurt...
Is this you? Have you been successful and then fallen off the proverbial wagon a mere couple years later? Have you finally realized that you can't eat potato chips for dinner anymore? Ahhh... The honeymoon is over and it's just not fair.
Life goes on. The false sense of hope has now turned to the morbid realization that now we have to actually work at losing and maintaining our weights. Depression sets in and the roller coaster starts dragging our sorry rear ends right back down to reality at a frightening pace.
I am reaching out to the community, what are you doing to make your life as successful in years 4 and 5 as they were when you were just starting out after surgery? Please, spare me the "I exercise and eat healthy" sermon because frankly this message isn't for you. Great that you have managed to stick with all the changes. I want to hear from the people who started a downward spiral and then managed to turn it all around.
Did you start a new diet? Did you join a specific group? What made you realize you were headed in the old accustomed direction? How are you dealing with that old familiar depression that lurks around the corner?

Topic: RE: who is the best bariatric surgeon in Oklajoma?
I would choose the same surgeon again...Dr. Ronald Keith from Norman, OK. He has done thousands of surgeries and is from a "Center of Excellence" which is the only place medicare will pay for the surgery to be done. Dr. Keith is meticulous in ensuring his patience get perfect care (with a specially trained staff at the hospital). I would do it again in a heartbeat. I had RNY 3 years ago this week and am at goal weight for almost 18 months.
The secret to success is DON'T CHEAT the first year and take all vitamins and supplements. Most people who gain their weight back are cheating or say they don't have time to eat mostly protein....Follow eggface on here (www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com) and use some of her recipes...currently, if I crave something, I eat a few bites and give the rest away to neighbors or leave it on my plate...I had to learn that.
Of course it's uncomfortable and hard at first, but well worth it. I can now cross my legs, chase my grandchildren, and actually take a walk or visit an arts fair!!!
ONLY go to a center of excellence since the beds and chairs are bigger, staff are trained to accommodate bariatric patients and my hospital stay was fantastic! Of course I began to hate the people who wanted me to get out of bed and walk every day, but who doesn't :)

Hi Sarah,
Now I didn't have RNY, but I just wanted you to know that there are times when I am severely restricted and then there are days where, if I pace myself, I can eat all day long. I had my DS 2 yrs ago tomorrow. My weight the day of surgery ws 356 and I now fluctuate between 150-155. I think sometimes out "stomachs" are still confused. Good luck with the rest of your adventure.
