I just wanted to say I am so sorry you're doing through this. I hope that the new year brings healing, health and peace.
Well I am 11 years out with my band and I am getting ready to say good bye to it. My saying goodbye is not because I hit my goal and I have changed my life in a #jesussaves kinda way but rather because two days ago during an EGD for what my GI thought was possible IBS it was discovered that my band has eroded into my stomach. And to quote my doctor "This is the worst case of erosion he has every seen".
First and foremost I know this didn't happen over night and I know I should have taken better care of myself when things start to feel off a few years back but like many reading this life, kids, work, and everything else got in the way. Looking back knowing now what has been causing my problems I should have clued in sooner but I didn't. I also know that after my liver surgery I stopped the eating habits and everything that made my band successful at first. Rather it was a mindful choice or not I was just thankful to be alive after dealing with that.
I can't say that I am back in the same boat I was in 11 years ago. I am still 150 pounds lighter than I was 11 years ago. I don't seem to be gaining weight I stay in a 10 pound range of 250 to 260. What I can say is for lack of a better term I am sad and scared. My family doesn't really get it and I don't blame them. There is no real info out there about erosion other than the stats and people stories. I can't find things to help me understand what I am looking with the surgery to remove the band and repair my stomach.
I guess this post is just as much as a release as it is to ask if anyone who has dealt with erosion what steps they went through, how was it handled, how did you feel, how long did it take to heal. I am sorry for the rambling just kinda numb still at this point.
I contacted soonercare today and I was told the only doctor's that accept Soonercare are Dr. Keith (405-360-7100), Dr. Alana Nelson (735-2049) both are in Norman OK. Also a Dr in OKC, I wasn't quick enough for the name but his number is 232-4211. I hope this helps.
Dr. Ronnie Keith is in Norman OK. He does accept soonercare. His number is 405-360-7100. There is also another doctor that accepts Soonercare in Norman, her name is Dr. Alana Nelson 735-2049. I hope this information helps you and good luck!
Dr Keith is the one that does wls for Medicaid. My problem is with the primary care doctor and his staff not knowing what they are doing to get me through the process to get approved to see Dr. Keith.
However, I found out that the dietician I was seeing said that she did not recommend me for surgery because she required me to lose at least 25#. I only lost 24.7#. My doctor is refering me to someone else to give it another try.
You could call Dr. Ronnie Keith's office and see if they work with Medicaid. Even though he's located in OKC, he travels to Tulsa and does work there as well. You're going to have to call every Bariatric doctor and do research. Good luck!
I don't think you'll find a Primary care doc that does anything seriously with RNY/VSG.

How do i get in touch with Dr. Keith. How do I get started. I'm very interested. I'm ready.
I am looking for a primary care doctor that has been through the process with a patient on medicaid. My current doctors office has no experience and has wasted the last year saying they are going to help me. In the end they gave up and is now making excuses for not doing their job. I need a doctor who has a staff that knows the procedures to get approved with medicaid. I am located in Owasso but I am willing to travel for the right doctor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a friend that attends in Norman. Not sure how far that is for you. You might also want to check with the bariatric surgeons in Edmond to see if they have one.... I'm guilty of not doing the 'in person' support groups... I'm addicted to the online versions (here and a couple of other boards).
But maybe we should have a get together here! I know there'a a few of us from the OKC area on this board!
