Hi, Sandy, Welcome to the loser's bench.  I had the sleeve done the same place but by Dr. Nelson and I really liked Norman Regional.  It was a nice experience.

...but the protein shakes are the pits.  I can tolerate Chike Chocolate Bliss and have one every day.  I also like the Nectar Chocolate Truffle but it 's a snack rather than a meal replacement.

Hi Molly! Congrats and thanks for persevering! I hope to be in shock pretty soon, too! For me, it's been a six year journey of denials and disappointments. But I pray that Dr. Keith's office wll be the stopping place for me, too.

Topic: 2 days out and wanted to say Hi!!
I had the Lap-Band procedure done on Friday, June 4, 2010.  Dr. Ronnie Keith was my doctor and I must say that his staff was excellent.  I had researched this procedure for awhile before I did it so i didn't think there was a lot else to learn.  Boy was I wrong.  After all my classes, I felt very well informed and knowlegable about the decision I had made.  Eventhough, I hate the 3 hour drive from my house to Norman, I wouldn't change a thing.  I feel like I know so much more about my Lap-Band than some of my friends who had it done as well.

My procedure was done at Norman Regional, which is a beautiful facility.  The nursing staff in both surgery and on the bariatric floor  were amazing.  Being a nurse myself, it was nice to be on the receiving end of such good care for a change.

I will say that I am tired of protein shakes already, YUCK.  I just can't find any that don't about gag me.  I have been being a good girl though.  So if any of you know some good ones, let me know.  I have been on the New Direction.  It is okay.  I ordered the Unjury and won't even try it again.  I tried the Muscle Milk.  It was tolerable, but nothing I want to have on a daily basis.  I am now drinking the Slim Fast low carb chocolate.  It also is just okay.  So if you guys have found a favorite then please let me know.

Topic: RE: Tricare Remote Provider
I have Tri-Care Prime and the only doctor I found on the Tri-Care website was Dr. Ronnie Keith.  He is out of Norman.  From what I understand, Tri-Care mandates that you go to a Center of Excellence and Norman Regional is the only one in Oklahoma.   I just had my lap-band put in June 4, 2010.  His whole staff was very polite and knowledgeable and I could not have for better nursing care at Norman Regional.  You can go to OWLO.com and check out his website as well as schedule a date for your seminar.  It only took Tri-Care 2 days to approve me.  They get you approved before you even go to your first consultation appointment.  I liked that because I didn't want to go through all of those hoops just to find out later I wasn't approved.  Hope this helped some and good luck to you.

Topic: Meet ups?
I think it would be really great if all of us Okie folk would do a meet up lunch/dinner/coffee or something.

I know in the past y'all did this once a month or so and it looked to be great fun. It is always nice to put a face with a name and meet in person.

Is there anyone interested in getting this going again?

August will be here before you know it.    Good for you, using this time productively.   Getting emotionally and mentally ready for surgery is as important as being physically ready.

You'll do great!!!

Everything happens for a reason.

Topic: It's like waiting for Christmas.....
Today I had my psych appointment with Dr. Keller in Moore.  It actually was a lot different than I thought it would be.  I was expecting some sort of interrogation, like he would just be looking for a reason to say nope, sorry, no surgery for you!  But instead he was such a nice guy and really said some things that I found to be helpful and comforting.  It's like every time I leave one of my required appointments, I feel even more convinced that this is the right choice for me.  Which makes waiting for an actual date that much harder.  I feel like a kid waiting on Christmas.  Tentatively my surgery should be scheduled for some time in August, and I know the time will pass by quickly.  Even still, I feel like Veruca Salt in Willy Wonka - "I want it now!"  :)
I am going to use this time to keep making some changes, getting myself ready, and continuting to learn, learn, learn so I can be as prepared as possible.  I feel hopeful.....which is something I haven't felt in a long time.  It's a good feeling.......

Aww, thanks so much and I hope you all will remind me when I need it about how hard I worked to get here if I go through the "buyer's remorse" stage.
