I used Dr. B and I too, love that man. I had my surgery in Feb and have lost over 70 lbs. and feel great. It was the best decision that I ever made and well worth the $$ since I was self pay. Good luck.
Topic: Question for anyone who had to have their silastic ring removed
Hello,
I had lap rny on 12/26/2007. In April 2008, I had to have my silastic ring removed because my body rejected it. As a result I have stretched my pouch to the point I can eat "normally" but I do still get the dumping syndrome if I eat too much sugar/carbohydrates. I weighted around 475 when I had the surgery. I now weight 387 although my lowest weight since the surgery has been 349. I saw my surgeon on Thursday 8/12/10 and as we were talking I reminded him that he had removed my silastic ring. He suggested that I try the South Beach diet.
Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone used the South Beach diet to lose weight after having any type of bariatric surgery?
Thanks.
Tina in OK

Dear Angie, Thanks so much for your response and congratulations on your tremenedous loss. You must feel like a new person. It's so good to hear from veterans and heros that have gone before us and their success.
Because my brother used Dr Walton, I had my one on one visit with him this past Thurs. Because my BMI is 32 he wants me to do the program for a couple of months before giving me the green light on surgery. I guess they normally don't do it below BMI of 35. You know, after a life time of diets that I lose weight and then eventually gain it back plus even a little more, I am too depressed to do another one. (Knowing the ugly outcome.) I am convinced this is my last hope for making it finally a life-time change that I don't backslide on again. Isn't that what it's all about.....a lifetime change? And isn't this the tool to help us maintain it? I also get depressed thinking about what possible additional health problems I will develop if my BMI becomes even greater just to be obese enough to qualify for surgery. I would like to stop it now....while it is still just high blood pressure & high cholesterol. I would like to have the sleeve, especially since cash pay is reduced right now. Which procedure did you select?
At any rate I think both Dr B & Dr W are both great and a person can't go wrong with either one. I will be looking for you at weightwise and possibly the support groups. Thanks for being a doll of encouragement. Hugs back! EsmeAnna

Congratulations, Sarah, sounds like you are doing well and that you've gained a lot. You are so right about the emotional eating. Somedays, I really want food that I know I don't need. I wish you the best also. donna

Dr. B is awesome! Like others have said, he will not sugar coat anything, he is very tell it like it is. With that he is very caring! You will make a good choice with this one!
1 1/2 year out, no problems, no issues, would do it again in a heart beat!
Best of luck to you!

Topic: Mia for a long time.... update
Hello all my old friends and the many new comers I see on here. My name is Sarah and I had RNY 11-10-08 with a starting weight of 407 lbs. I am currently sitting at 180lbs and have for the first time in my life lost the tag of obese completely. Seems strange after losing 227lbs that I would still be tagged that especially when I think I am fa from it from where I started. Life is good I have so much energy and have gained so much from life since shedding the weight. I still have to watch myself against emotional eating but that is a life time of habit to break and it doesnt break easily. I wish every one the best and hope to get back where I can be on here more often asap. hugs and kisses to all.

I just want everyone to know it is well worth the time to attend the weightwise seminar in Edmond, Ok. Dr Brousard's seminar was extremely informative. You can tell what a patient and caring doctor he is. He stayed late to answer all questions and made everyone comfortable to ask about any related subject. It helped to further convince me that this is the way to go to finally achieve a life long, life style change. My brother had the sleeve done by Dr Walton at the same facility and is doing fantastic. He is 100% sold on his procedure. Thank you for the seminar.

Oh, heck, I even thought the Cajun accent was charming!
Dr. B won't sugar coat anything. He'll tell you what he knows about weight loss surgery and your specific situation. If you don't want honesty and commitment go elsewhere. I've known a few who consulted with him, but were put off by his straight forwardness, then went elsewhere. I think they may have occasionally regretted their decision, but I'm not going to speak for someone else. All I can say for me, I'm totally glad I had the sleeve (no malabsorption, no fills) and that I'm even more glad I had it at WW. Dr. B drove me crazy requiring more and more tests prior to surgery, kept me in the hospital three nights, and insisted on doing a second surgery to check for internal bleeding. As you can see by my ticker, I'm 8# from my target. I've not weighed this little since high school, maybe junior high. I din't believe it was possible and was prepared to "settle" when I hit 150. Now I truly believe that I can eat and live like this for the rest of my long life.
Good luck on your weight loss journey!
