Hi everybody. My surgery is this Thursday, april 20. My pre-op is on Tuesday. Tracy had called and told me to go on a liquid diet starting yesterday, but what I had forgoten to ask her was..What qualifies as a liquid diet??? At first, I had opened up my "bariatric bible" and referred to the Grocery List, and just ate things like cream soups, and sugar free puddings plus my protein shakes..But I noticed that, that is the grocery list for after surgery..So should I just be drinking shakes? If anyone can help me. I would be very grateful. I can not contact Tracy until tomorrow and I don't want to completely sabotage my surgery

I am not one of Dr. Katsis or Fisher's patients, but I am scheduled for surgery by Dr. Gorospe on Tuesday. For his patients, liquid diet pre-surgery is clear liquids. The only thing non-clear is the protein drinks. Crystal light, broth, sugar free jello (but not red before surgery), decaf tea or coffee, sugar free kool aid (again not red before surgery). I hope this might help you. I wouldn't worry about the protein drinks and don't think that you will sabotage your surgery. Hopefully one of their patients will answer and give you the correct info for your surgeon. Call Tracy in the AM. And good luck. Sharon

Thank you so much! I didn't think anybody would answer me and then it would be too late I'm sure those guidelines are probably about the same as Surgical Associates patients. I wonder why you can't have anything red? Everybody keeps asking me if I'm excited, but honestly, I'm more nervous about being under general anesthesia..I'm having the Lap Band, but i think its still considered pretty invasive, with a big fat 5 1/2 in*****ision! I'm having so much trouble with the liquid diet, but I'm doing it. I didn't know it would be so hard, I've just had a general uneasiness the past 2 days..Maybe its just more difficult becuase its a holiday weekend, and everywhere you look people are talking about candy and big easter dinners..Anyways, thanks again! Good luck on Tuesday!! staci
