Feeling very discriminated against . . .
Hi all, I know this shouldn't be making me so upset, but I'm in tears over it and cant' seem to help it. I don't write on the boards much and feel a little guilty for even venting here, but not sure where else to turn to.
I'm about 8 months out and have lost 90lbs. Starting to go out to resturants with friends again. My roomie stopped home to surprise me taking me for Chinese. I was in the garden so very much dressed down and comfy. You know, "common country folk like."
I've not had any trouble with my bariatric card. We've been there before and thought they'd given the children's price. Well I got a light plate of food. We had a 3 year old with us and he had more food on his plate. I ate a small chunck of chicken, a dumpling and 6 green beans. The waitress came back and I wanted to double check the card. The manager came back to tell me they didn't give discounts.
Okay, I had a small plate of food, had made a slight mistake. I made a couple of suggestions to fix the problem. I wouldn't get anymore food or I could just put my plate in a to go box, put a few more items in, so it was a normal filled box and pay for it as a to go. That wouldn't have broken any of their rules and I wouldn't feel like I'd been over charged. He told me I could put my original plate in a to-go box and he'd charge me. (here's where how I was dressed came in. How dumb does he think I am?) Uhh . . . isn't that the same thing as paying 9 for the plate I already had? His arguement was, because I had a selection of items from the buffet, I was being charged all the additional for the option of choices.
I lost my appitite and was fighting tears. I wasn't trying to cheat the resturant, I just wanted fair. The manager got a sudden phone call and dissappeared until I left.
I could have gotten alot of food and left it all over the table, but that's petty. While trying to tell one of the waitresses, that I wanted a written thing from her manager of what he told me and wouldn't agree to, she got upset and insisted I needed to pay, that they'd have to pay if I didn't. Even said she'd let me do the to-go box. I told her no and she had to go take care of a customer. I told the cashier to thank her for her offer, but their manager had already said he wouldn't do that, and I wasn't trying to get anyone in trouble. I paid, kept a receit and am going to talk to the owner in the morning.
Am I being unreasonable? I know most folks on here are a little bias, but this is worth pursuing, isn't it?
Girl, I applaud your stand. Someone needs to stand up for us. I think it is so unfair that we eat very little and are still charged the price of normal eating folks. I totally avoid buffets and all you can eat altogether. I don't know how far you will get by I definitely think it is great that you are standing up for all post ops out there.
The best thing is to avoid buffets. If you do go be prepared to pay full price. I found that the aggrivation of trying to explain why I am requesting a disount is not worth it. I just go to a resturant pay full price and take a doggie bag home. A far as buffets are concerned I figured over the years when I could eat 5 plates of food I got more than my monies worth. It is not worth having your evening ruined.
