Hi Everyone. I am on Medicaid and cannot find any information on if Medicaid will pay in Oklahoma or not. So I was wanting to know if anyone has any information about the cost of the Lap RNY surgery and which DR. would be best at this surgery and also if you do self pay can you pay so much down and then pay it out? Or do you have to have everything up front. ALso what does the actual cost cover? I know alot of questions but I am needing this surgery so bad, If anyone has any information it would be so much appreciated. Looking forward to any reply....Thanks Reba

Hello Reba, I was a self-pay patient of Dr. Gorospe in Tulsa. I believe the total cost was approximately $25,600. This does not include the pre-surgery tests that are required, which my insurance pick up most. I had the lap RNY. This included the surgeon fees and the hospital stay for as long as I needed. I had heard that you could have RNY performed in Arkansas for approximately 10 thousand cheaper, but I was so impressed with Dr. Gorospe, that I felt it was worth the extra money. They did require that the money be paid up front....don't know if they have any financing available. Sorry I can't help w/ the Medicaid question Hope this helps. Scott

Have you checked with Foundation Bariatric Hospital that just opened in Edmond? They have support group meetings and a wonderful Seminar that has an awesome presentation of the various surgeries, etc. I think their cost for everything on a Lap Band is $16,000 and on a RNY $29,000. However they also follow you after surgery for up to 5 yrs. and that is worth a LOT! Dr. Greg Walton is their surgeon. The facility is beautiful and totally furnished and geared for the Bariactic patient. My daughter will have her surgery there soon, as well as a couple of friends. They have a website WeightWise.com and have commercials out on TV. Check it out.

Although I was a patient of Dr. Gorospe, I have many of Dr. Walton's patients in my Ponca City support group and they speak very highly of him. I think he would be a fine choice as well.

Howdy! From what I understand Medicaid will pay for the surgery but you have to have serve enough medical problems to make it a neccesaity. There are several surgical loan companies that will loan you the money. From what I have read, most Docs want a precentage down, if not half it depends on the doctor. I have read that its cheaper to have it done in Arkansas.... Good luck I am saying a prayer for you< Pattye

I was told by my own surgeon that he has only ever been able to get Medicaid to pay when Medicare was primary. My sister is on Medicaid and desperately needs to have the surgery. If anyone finds out for sure differently, I would be glad to know. Jen

I just had surgery on April 3rd with Dr. Walton as my surgeon @ the Foundation Bariatric Hosptal. I can tell you that the experiences from the Informational seminar, to meeting Dr. Walton and having the surgery were Awesome! I was also a self pay. The surgery went extremely well, the hospital staff were wonderful and EVERYONE, from the radiologist, the surgery nurses, Nursing staff all visted me EVERY Day. I had my OWN personal nurse assigned to me, as well as a respitory nurse day and night. The staff was all wonderful and made me PROMISE to visit them so they could see how I was doing. Feel free to e-mail me if you want more info. Jane

I will have to do self pay since the insurance were I work excludes wls. Do I have to cough up all 25 grand at once prior to surgery or will they work out payments? The cost for the rny amounts to a years salary for me!

I called the Oklahoma Health Care Authority last Friday. And I was told by the person who answered the phone that for the seven years she has worked there she has not known of a single weight loss surgery being approved. That you can submit a request in and see what happens. Which is strange because if you look at insurers on this site it shows that Medicaid has paid in the past... I could make some calls and ask which Surgeons do and don't take self pay etc if you would like the help.... pattye
